The government has no business banning or regulating any substance. We're suppose to have freedom in this country.

Why not? It would fit right in with banning salt, sugar, happy meals, fast foods in general, and most anything that tastes or feels good.

because I dont smoke and I do not want to see my taxes raised anymore than they are already.
taxes are too high now and i dont want to see state/federal/local goverments raise taxes to make up for the shortfall that tobacco provides.

Only a nazi or communist would accept or seek a total ban.

Seems like there are more important things the government should be doing than taking away individual liberties.

I am not a smoker, hate the smell, cigarettes to me are plain disgusting. But that being said, what about freedom of choice, right or wrong, good or bad or indifferent, inch by inch, if we so let them, things that we love, might soon be taken away also. Health wise, this would be a very good decision, but smokers already know the risk to their health, i would tend to say yes because my Father died of lung cancer caused by cigarettes. But there still comes that thing called freedom to make your own choice.

There doesnt seem much point in an out and out ban. By banning smoking in public places, limiting advertising and education campaigns smoking should go into terminal decline
