We don't need to be violent, we just need to be out. So when someone asks if you are married, say you would like to be when you meet the right guy. What holds gays back in part are those who are half closeted. In my state, we are openly in law enforcement, we are in govt. - even in the legislature and on city councils and we now have a lesbian State Supreme Court Justice.

Not in today's world.

This thread is a joke, especially considering the OP's tagline. Celebrating homosexuality is sick. One is what one is but to think it's a wonderful thing to celebrate is just plain bizarre.

I disagree with you, but you are entitled to your opinion.

When members of a community - whether black, Latino, Jewish, Italian, Gay, Handicapped, etc. - see one of their own achieve a noteworthy accomplishment it gives that group a sense of satisfaction and pride. Do you not think black folks note Paul Robeson or Frederick Douglas during Black History Month; or Jewish folks point to Albert Einstein or Jonas Salk?

Here in the US, members of the LGBT community have also made outstanding contributions to society, such as the composer Leonard Bernstein, the poet Walt Whitman, the author Gertrude Stein, the playwright Tennessee Williams, the architect Philip Johnson, tennis star Martina Navratilova, Olympic gold medalist Greg Louganis, etc.

Sounds to me you are resentful that someone in the LGBT community made an accomplishment.

Yep, so are you holding it against Obama that he didn't write a lengthy article or something when by definition he couldn't?

A significant percentage of editors-in-chief or presidents of law reviews at top law schools don't write their own articles at all.

But anyway, congratulations to the new President of Harv. L. Rev. I'm sure he's going to do a great job, though it's going to take a ton of work for him as a 3L.

Why is it important that I know about someone's sexual preference ?
I don't want to know your sexual preference..ok ?

It's important because homosexuals to this day are targets of bigotry. Every time an openly GLBT person makes it to a position that none have before, it helps set the stage for the day when there will be equality and acceptance.

Promoting your sexuality over your skills just makes me think that you're not really qualified for the job but got it BECAUSE of being gay.

What makes you think Reich wasn't elected on his merits? Did you read the article about him? Guy's got an impressive background and has been in leadership roles in the past.

Being out of the closet /= "promoting your sexuality"
