Here we go again.

Scott’s privatization push meeting some resistance – Central Florida Political Pulse – Orlando Sentinel

It seems that every time the GOP gets control of some arm of the government, privatization is their solution to everything which ails us. From intelligence to troop support on the federal level, to prisons, mental health facilities and toll roads on the state level, the GOP is assidiously shifting necessary government services to their corporate buddies. Their claim is always that it saves us money and reduces the size of government.

But, does it?

Take prisons, for instance. While the government no longer operates those privatized prisons, it IS still responsible for them and it DOES still cost us money, so what's the point other than to enrich their sponsor's? Conditions for the inmates hasn't improved and, in fact, are often worse.

Or, take vehicle maintenance, food service and bunker-line security at our big bases in Iraq and Afghanistan. The workers there make twice what soldiers make doing jobs they used to do and the tax payers are being soaked. It's war for profit.

Moreover, privatized government services are often out of the normal government command authority loop and those tasked to oversee them have little influence in affecting change or addressing grievances.

Privatization is just another scam, another facade, behind which the GOP can hide and claim, "We're for smaller government!"

Just another public subsudy for private investors. The Republicans are just stealing from the lower paid workers and giving the money to "investors" that will kick some back in the form of campaign contributions. I expect a lot from Republicans but ethics is not one of them.

There are many, many things that our federal, state and local governments, have no business even being involved in.

When government is not involved, there is competition to be the best.

Yes, and where do those savings end up? In the pockets of their corporate buddies, not in our treasury.

Not only that, but it leaves We The People having to deal with the lowest paid contract labor they can find and that often means foreign workers imported to perform our own government's functions.

Did you know, for instance, that those actually guarding our bases and perparing the food our soldiers eat are foreigners, recruited from all over the world because they're willing to work cheap by our standards? Is anyone comfortable with that? I'm sure not.

Another example: Have you been to the Lincoln Memorial in Washington lately? Security there has been outsourced to a corporation which has hired so many foreign workers that it's difficult to find one who actually speaks English well enough to understand a tourist's questions.

There stands privatization at it's finest! Uniformed foriegners guarding one of our greatest treasures for profit and they can't even speak our language!

I'll agree with that, but the answer is simply eliminate those responsibilities which government has no business being involved in, not to keep the responsibility and let someone else handle it for profit.

You guys want more government control because that's so dang efficient and cheap? When a company has to make a profit to stay in operation they tend to do things more efficiently. It's common sense...but that's something I don't expect a lib to understand.

Liberals don't have any concept of accountability and responsibility. They think federal money grows on Chinese trees ripe for our picking with no ramifications, of course.

And don't forget--once we owe them enough then we become "too big to fail" and they won't come collect it.

It promotes corruption and greed, but that is what Scott has been all about for quite a long time. Floridians are just going to start realizing what a mistake they made last Nov.
