Less than three years into his first term, more Americans identify Barack Obama as the best-ever president than Theodore Roosevelt or Thomas Jefferson.
Gallup, in a poll released Friday, asked 1,015 adults to name the president they regard as the greatest in history.
Ronald Reagan finished first at 19 percent, followed by Abraham Lincoln at 14 percent and Bill Clinton at 13 percent.
One in 20 named Obama — who ranked seventh overall — behind Franklin Roosevelt but ahead of his Republican distant cousin, Theodore.

Quite sad actually, if true. Just failure of education in this country. Reagan didn't deserve to lick Lincoln's boots.

Where was this poll taken? At the last GOP convention?

That said, there is a lot to admire about the man.

Reagan and Clinton in the top 3? I think not. But most people are only familiar with the last 6 or 7 presidents, and lets face it, that is not a very good selection. In that context I suppose the poll was fair, but still..

What exactly is there to admire about Reagan? As a governor he ruined California. As a president he just ran up a tab and left us the citizens holding the bag.

I remember Reagan being an "average" actor. Lincoln as a mass murderer. Strange how they are rated #1 and #2. Silly Americans!!!!!!!!!

Reagan was certainly the best president of the 20th century. Although one could make a case for bully Teddy. Lincoln was an asshat who prized the federal government over individual and state's rights. Jefferson was certainly the greatest president of the 19th century.
