Look at the way they reacted to the toppling of a dictator in Egypt recently.
3. Identification of enemies/scapegoats as a unifying cause
Unions, Immigrants, Blacks, Mexicans, liberals, "mainstream media", gays, Muslims, etc... list goes on and on
4. The supremacy of the military/avid militarism
Another given
5. Rampant sexism
Listen to Limbaugh
6. A controlled mass media.
Does not meet criteria. They dominate talk radio, but not the rest of media.
7. Obsession with national security
No brainer
8. Religion and ruling elite tied together
Palin, Christian Right, prayer in schools, 10 commandments in public
9. Power of corporations protected
No brainer
10. Power of labor suppressed or eliminated

11. Disdain and suppression of intellectuals and the arts

Both parties are culpable, so I'll let this one slide

2000 election, but since it's been over a decade I'll let this one slide. Plus Democrats are also known to engage in this.
