What a load of crap. The taxpayers knew for all of my 37 years exactly what I was making. Never once did one come up to me and say, geez times are really good right now, I think we should give you more money. All those years the taxpayers were benefiting at MY expense. Where were you when I needed you??

No, the taxpayer is just recently finding out what is in those union contracts.
When the unions squawk because their members have to pay a big, heaping 12% of their own (including family) HC premiums, or when they finally have to pay 6% of their own pensions (free before), that doesn't play too well with the average taxpayer/worker, who is paying a lot more than that.
Is there a reason government workers should be given the store?

You expect someone to do this job on minimum wage without benefits? You had better hope your residence doesn't start on fire, there may not be anyone available to put the fire out and risk their lives to rescue your children!
Compared to almost any private sector financial or corporate manager ALL public employees are paupers even before, let alone after, they retire.
The key to the entire problem is using a progressive tax system to obtain and recirculate the ill gotten gains of our executive aristocracy. No income tax for the bottom 90% and a graduated tax on all income from all sources on the top 10%. These would be Privileged Aristocrats won't like it but they can afford it.

Statistics, please to back up your statements.
Different school districts provide different negotiated benefits for their employees. A few might provide the Cadillac benefits to which you refer, most do not. I always paid for my own dependent coverage, which back in the early 90s was close to $500/mo - at which time, my private sector friends were getting full HC for themselves and dependents, dental, and life. I didn't begrudge them their benefits: I made my choice, they made theirs.
I've already discussed pensions, so will not go into it again except to say I earned mine and I make no apologies for it.
