During the late 19th century, the US decided to offer free education for all children whether they are rich or poor. The proposal was for making a generation literate to work the factories of the industrial age. Public education created functionally literate people to fuel the American economic system.

Now that we are in a globalized world, which requires educated and skilled people to fuel economic growth in this country, we should allow anyone in the US to attend college free of charge. It makes sense in this global economy.

It's time to reset the way we do things, People.

Ah, it can't be "free". Someone has to pay for that education.

Who would you suggest pay for it?

Nothing is free. Somebody pays for it. Children don't get a free education. Taxpayers pay for it instead of their parents.

Taxpayers should pay for higher education as well. It benefits our country.

am I missing something here?

Exactly what do we offer to other countries besides the intimidation of our Military and Fake money?

What do we produce besides paper money and a good army?

Haven't you heard... the jobs and careers that COLLEGE GRADUATES have had the past 30 + years, and the jobs the recent graduates expected ARE NOT THERE ANYMORE.

The only jobs opening up are the ones where a high school diploma isn't really even necessary but definitely preferred.

Take a reality pill and stop listening to idiots that know nothing about the economy but are just trying to make you pay more in taxes and be more under their control than you already are.

You have no idea what you are talking about.

No wonder you are so against higher education.

"No one should suffer because they lack education" should be prefaced with "No one should be compelled to labor for the benefit of another, so that..." because slavery is not an acceptable solution to the ills of mankind.

I have yet to find a socialist who wasn't generous with other people's money.

But since the real purpose of the 'education establishment' is to bestow credentials, let us offer open examinations to acquire said credits.

One can learn any time, any place, any fashion, and for a nominal fee, take any exam. Thus credentials would be most inexpensive, though not entirely "free".
