"Legislation that would allow emergency financial managers to throw out union contracts and overrule elected officials in financially distressed municipalities and school districts was approved Wednesday by the state Senate. Similar legislation passed in the House in February, and the two chambers are working on a final version to send to Gov. Rick Snyder. Snyder has called for more authority for emergency financial managers and is expected to sign the legislation into law.

The legislation outlines a detailed process to help communities and school districts right their finances. But labor unions and local officials object to provisions that would allow emergency financial managers to ignore union contracts, undo local ordinances and dissolve city councils and school boards."

And it's not just Union contracts they'd be allowed to void at will, but any contract. Any. And if you like your elected city council and they're working hard for your city, too bad so sad, the governor can just decide to get rid of them and put a CORPORATION in charge of running your city. Like your elected school board? Live in a great school district? Sorry, Charlie. Your school district is being dismantled, half the schools are being closed and you're merging with ABC Corporation's neighboring school district.

Happy with your child's curriculum? Sucks to be you, because Govs Buddy Corp had decided to get rid of it. Don't like it? Take it up with Govs Buddy Corp's Board of Directors. Oh wait! They don't give a $h!t what you have to say, you didn't vote for them and can't remove them from "office". They're only answerable to their shareholders.

Are you a Republican in favor of smaller, more limited government? Don't move to MichiDowistan. The size, scope and power of state government just blew up beyond your wildest imaginations.

We are so screwed.
funny this jsut happened in nassau county new york where the democra controlled state took over the county.......where is your post about the liberals????

The point of the bill is to give the EFM managers the same protection afforded all other politicians, judges, police officers, doctors...

Currently EFM managers can be sued for doing their job function if citizens dont agree with actions taken.. Would you support people suing Obama personally? Of course you wouldnt, but you somehow think these people shouldnt follow the same rules as everyone else..

DUDE! That's what VOTING is for.

VOTING.

The right of the PEOPLE to elect their representatives, whether it be at the federal, state, city or school board level.

No Governor should have the right to usurp the voting rights of the PEOPLE.

How is it that you don't get this?

You absolutely know nothing about this topic. These smaller entities are within the rights of the PEOPLE to ELECT, not the GOVERNOR to take over control of on his own personal whim.

Sucks to be you. You just lost your right to vote for those offices. And you're actually okay with that. I'm just gobsmacked by your willingness to cede your personal control of your local government to The State.

Do you have any idea what you're actually supporting here?

Any idea?

Do I need to spell it out for you?

It's Fascism. Michigan just became a Fascist State.

And you're okay with that.
Take a look at what the city council helped do to Detroit...

Listen up, one can only be a hypocrite if one takes opposing positions on the same issue, KNOWINGLY.

1. Show me exactly what happened in Nassau county and prove that it is the exact same thing as what just happened here on a STATE level.

2. Show me that I was aware of that having happened.

Well, if the elected officials are running the city, town, hamlet into the ground...what is to be done?

Union contracts, that are bankrupting state and local governments.

The House and Senate versions provide a long list of triggers — such as missed vendor payments or failing to make payroll — that could lead to a examination of a community's or school district's finances by a state review team.
Obviously, there must be a reason in order for emergency management to take over.

Thats why you VOTE for Governor.. Its THEIR job to take over cities that are not financially stable.. Do you know this goes on ALL THE TIME.. Even under Democratic Governors?

I dont see any mention of it from liberals.. I've even linked them to numerous Michigan Cities put under an EFM by the previous Democratic Governor.. not even a peep out of them.. They pretend the postings dont exist and they just carry on with their typical hypocritcal rants..

This is like the 5th thread we've had by Democrats all proclaiming the same thing.. I guess the Democratic playbook mentioned it..

WRONG.

The PEOPLE did that to Detroit.

The PEOPLE.

The PEOPLE who elected not only their city councils, but their Representatives to the Michigan Legislature, as well as their Representatives in the United States Congress.

The ridiculous notion that the decline of Detroit, or any other city in Michigan, rests solely on the shoulders of city councils is utterly uninformed and just plain wrong, idiotic and short-sighted.
