You'd do good to worry about the survival of your 14 trillion dollar indebted country instead of wishing bad on others who actually have their houses in order.

You think 350 dollars for a bike is expensive? There are hardly any brand bikes below that price these days.
The commuter trains in and out of New York City are fine. I much preferred my 35 minute train ride to White Plains to sitting in traffic on West Side Highway for the best part of an hour (more on a Friday).

Google it and tell me how many liberals you find advocating for more public transportation...high speed rail?...Google it and tell me how many liberals you find that just owning a car is bad in general...it sure the hell isn't right-wing nut jobs going around vandalizing SUVs because that are "harming the environment"

"And you want others to follow suit." it isn't me or anyone on the right that advocate for higher taxes on gas just so people would stop driving and take mass transit more......in-fact, there was nothing in my post to even remotely suggest that I wanted anyone to follow any "suit" but good job seeing that anyway...

I don't like something, I don't do it...like taking the bus, I don't do it, so I drive....now who are the ones who don't like cars and instead of simply not driving trying to force others not to drive too?

Good job anyway...

Though we would all prefer to preserve our access to convenient automobiles, they are becoming progressively too expensive, as is their support infrastructure.
It is inevitable that finite fuel supplies, finite budgets, and wise heads realize that the only option is for utilizing the most efficient forms of transportation with which to move cargo and passengers.

That means electric traction rail. (Barring some technological breakthrough)

Cool. Under the condition the EU continues to exist in 2050, of course.

London already has a steep cost for driving in the city.
Many cities have pedestrian zones in the town center so you can't drive there any way.

Yet they manage to live and thrive.

Well, if you're hell bent on representing the conservative mindset... I won't stop you. More fun for me, anyway.

Good to know you can use Google. And that you would rather tax the country than pay taxes towards something that is inevitable. Besides, who told you that gasoline taxes were designed to pay for roads only, can’t be used for anything else and that is all they cost? I’m curious about your sources. Bring them out.

Hey, do whatever you like. Stop bickering about not everybody agreeing with you.

People, can we please stop talking about proposals as though they are a given?

Not that they couldn't do this. There are places in Europe that are already car-free, and get this: some of them are even suburbs. That blow your mind?

your lucky

my choices are:

which would you rather....... I live 12 miles from work...........
1) to drive when there is no traffic (maybe 2am) it would take me 15 minutes.....but during rush hour it takes me almost 1 hr, I use a tank of gas (14 gallons) a week (at $3/gallon, that's $42 a week or 168 a month)....................
.......
or..........

2)...to take mass transit I would have to DRIVE 3 miles to the train-station(belmore), then wait for a train, to get to the terminal (jamaica station) to wait to get picked up the subway (to flushing), then hop on a bus to get to work, and it would take me over 2 and a half hours......and a monthly ticket for the long island railroad is over $375 a month...plus the subway and the bus

that is the problem with mass transit ( its at least twice the time and 4 times the cost) unless you live and work only blocks away...or in a direct line...........its actually cheaper, easier, and less time consuming(and time is money) to drive, especially since you need a car( so you will already have the 'startup' cost of a car anyhow) for the other things in life (other than the work commute) life going to the beach or out to wine country.

350 dollars for a used bike....and seeing as how a monthly pass is like, I think 80 dollars?...it would be months before the bike starts to pay for its self...

Rush Hour?...I didn't know 2 a.m. on a Tuesday is rush hour...could it be that they run just that slow?.....

Google it, so you didn't take in what I said...ok, well there are plenty of others with stories out there....the cold hard reality is that public transportation, for the most part is filthy....sorry, and don't take this the wrong way, but your extremely brief experience doesn't change that...I mean why should it?...

"well I just got off foul smelling, crowed train but some random person on the internet who rarely even uses the train says it really isn't that bad...so I shouldn't be too upset".....

sorry, that just isn't going to hold up...
