I found this an amazing story of how one man's mind was opened enough for him to see where he was wrong. I now support full marriage equality - Louis J. Marinelli (http://louisjmarinelli.com/politics/i-now-support-full-marriage-equality - broken link)

This statement sums up the whole thing:

"Lastly, I came to understand the difference between civil marriage and holy marriage as in the sacrament of the Catholic Church. Let me rephrase. I understood that but either willingly chose not to accept it or just didn’t see it.

Regardless, I see it now and the significance of that is as follows:
Once you understand the great difference between civil marriage and holy marriage, there is not one valid reason to forbid the former from same-sex couples, and all that is left to protect is the latter."

I mean, how difficult is this distinction? Unless you live in a theocracy there is no legal reason anyone should be against gay marriage.

I've really been surprised that this thread hasn't generated more discussion. But, despite that, I figured that this new link would be better posted here than creating a new thread. This is an interview with Mr. Marinelli by an on-line news organization.

The only reason I hesitate to support same-sex marriage is because I fear it may be opening the door to any and all kinds of marriages i.e. polygamy, polyandry, group marriage, close relative marriage, etc. and I am of the opinion that such a free-for-all will make marriage meaningless.

Meaningless how? What, in your eyes, does a civil marriage contract "mean"?
