This bunch of land grabbing thieves seems to have gotten what they want.
I see the logical conclusion of the Regan Revolution is private ownership of ALL for the Federal Parks for the exclusive pleasure of the top 1% with access limited to those that can afford to be in the club. Those people will not be you and me but only the multimillionaires that are stealing the Park in Benton Harbor.
Benton Harbor is another loss for the good guys in the never ending Class War.

This. Exactly this. It's nothing more than "wealth redistribution", which rightwingers are supposedly so against, when it comes to the rich having to cough up a penny if G-d forbid it went to helping people less fortunate. But when it comes to taking valuable resources from the poor and handing them over to the rich, their political ideologies go right out the window. It's the poor people's own damn fault, don't you know?
It's their fault Whirlpool moved their manufacturing out of their city. It's their fault the Corporate Headquarters doesn't employ the locals. It's their fault that when businesses leave, creating a huge unemployment problem, that,
by definition, leaves the city with fewer tax dollars to use to "clean up their mess" (aka take care of parks and roads and schools and make payrolls, etc.), and leaves residents with less money to spend. And when there are fewer and fewer consumers, more and more businesses will then leave.
It's a vicious circle. And the Republicans' answer isn't to offer incentives for businesses to return to the community and help rebuild it and its' residents, it's to write laws that allow them to come in and steal what's left of their resources -- in fact, their
only remaining resource of value -- and give it over to the rich and powerful so they can have a giant playground where they get to exclude the poor residents of the community, further pushing them out and into deeper poverty.
The notion that there will be jobs created for the people of Benton Harbor in this posh, exclusive golf course is laughable.
Maybe they'll need a handful of groundskeepers to do the dirty work, and a few busboys and dishwashers to serve them on their silver platters. But the unemployment problem is
much bigger than that, and a few low-level grunt jobs aren't going to make even a dent in the problem.
But screw 'em. They should've "fixed" this themselves in only the past year. They should have built their own manufacturing facility and made dog poo art they could distribute world-wide. Yeah! Why didn't they think of
that, huh?

Actually, more like $10,000. So what's your point? Poor people don't matter? This is relevant how, exactly?

Uhm, so? Do you think just having a list of "facts" that you can make look longer by padding it with irrelevant crap somehow makes you look smarter or more knowledgeable about the situation? Because it doesn't, and you aren't.

Hilarious. Republicans couldn't get their greedy paws on prime, shorefront property through any other means, so they get one of the guys who's been with one of the Developers to run for office, then make his
FIRST PIECE OF LEGISLATION be the right to take over any city the state pleases, prohibit the elected city leaders from legally blocking their actions anymore, and literally
STEAL what they've been trying to get for nearly a decade, and it's the
Democrats who are playing politics?
Jesus
Christ that's rich!
