I am with Donald Trump on this.

We shouldn't even trade with nations where the trade deficit is unbalanced, and we should not be trading with countries who encourage slave labor. I think we should only trade with Canada, Australia & New Zealand, and the European Union countries. Do we need China? No, we did just fine not trading, or trading much with them during the Mao years.

The US and China have been basically engaging in an economic cold war for awhile now. I don't see why calling it a "trade war" really means much.

The US needs to bring mnufacturing back here. If consumer's need a wake-up call so that they also demand a return to US manufacturing instead of cheap Chinese cr*p, so be it. Though, the market has a wya of settleing this in its own way. Different 3rd world countries will get manufacturing facilities before the US unless there is also positive incentive to bring manufacturing back to the US.

I agree with his position. The remaining industry in the US requires protection from the unfair prices created by China's slave wages, government subsidy, environmental pollution and dangerous working conditions. I would not set a straight 25% but make the tariff enough to cover the differences in price. These tariffs would not just apply to China but too all the rest of our trading partners. When the wages, working conditions and environment costs rose to American standards the tariffs would be reduced or eliminated. In the meantime China can sell their stuff to themselves. With the great increase in employment American workers could afford the higher prices. The international traders would have a fit. But who does our government work for? Them or the American People?

Not trying to come off as a jerk, but I think you know the answer to that question.

Silly experts--they just don't understand the "Talk Yourself Into a Presidential Candidacy Theory." First you make publicity-grabbing statements (it doesn't matter how rational or irrational they are!) Then you wait until someone calls you out, and while gently explaining how terribly your words have been misinterpreted, offer an "explanation" that completely contradicts the original statement.

When someone else points out that you've contradicted yourself, laugh heartily and point to a different questioner. Firmly refuse all offers to debate the opposition candidate unless you can pre-arrange all topics that will be discussed.

It is a good thing that economist were quoted in the article to straighten Trump out on some points like this one :

So you slap a tariff on them and they slam the door on all U S goods and what does that do for our manufacturing base? Do we risk losing our number 3 export market when we barely produce crap now. I am not educated and I could go on and on how dumb this idea is. It is nothing but a bunch of populist rhetoric to dupe only the very ignorant.
They can't slam the door on all US goods. They need us as bad as we need them.

I absolutely agree with you on the tariffs. We can't compete with their slave wages.

Rhetorical questions. Of course I know who our politicians work for and that is not most Americans.

Just a thought. If the Trumpster actually cared about the American worker then why not put a tarrif on all goods produced by American Companies that off-shore jobs and import the goods produced back to the USA to sell to Americans. I mean would not that help the US more than getting into a trade war with he next economic super power which we want as trade partners?
