I don't think people should use this as a justification to attack conservatives. Fear can be a very useful emotion. It can prevent us from getting ourselves into bad situations. A healthy dose of fear is necessary in order to survive.
The truth is that we need both conservatives and liberals in order to have a healthy society. Without liberalism, nothing changes; without conservatism, nothing is preserved.

Why is it that the part of the conservative brain that produces meanness is so overdeveloped? Facts get rejected and innuendo is elevated to be their substitute.
I agree with the OP. I think conservatives are more fearful which is why they conserve. Change is their Kryptonite and must be avoided. But change is the only way forward so those who are less afraid--apparently the liberals--are burdened with the task. Be advised that not all forward motion is successful, however. Life is indeed trial and error. For conservatives, there is no trial so there will be no error. For liberals, there's not much else. I have argued before that, in the end, liberal thinking always wins because it is the only one of the two to accept and use to advantage the inevitability of change.

Confirmed that when I used to do debate, rather than formulate an argument I unzipped my pants, slapped my 149 IQ score on the table, grinned at the other team, winked at the judges, and regularly took home trophies almost (but not quite) as prodigious as my massive intellect.
P.S. -- as more of a pragmatist than an ideologue, I too accept the inevitability of change and make sure to always have a pocket on hand; losing track of the quarters and dimes whenever you buy something adds up surprising fast.
P.P.S. -- Clever ad hominem in the opening; either someone who disagrees with you softens their tone, making them seem ineffectual and uncertain, or the idea of "meanness" attached to them is primed in the reader/listener's head. Not the most logically honest, but, bravo nevertheless .

If this experiment called America fails, you too will be forced to look at yourself in the mirror. Too bad you're not smart enough--or, in this case, is it not courageous enough?--to already see that.
Yeah, I should have made no IQ reference (now removed). I'm smacking my forehead at this point. Quantify anything about yourself and others will see it as an invitation for attack.
