Watching the coverage of bin Laden's demise two things strike me:
We DID NOT forget, we DID NOT give up. It took a while but this personification of evil finally got what he deserved.
After it was done, this turd, this scumbag, this satan in mortal disguise, was still treated with dignity far beyond what he deserved and given a burial befitting his religion of choice.

There's quite a bit of difference between killing a guy in an active firefight and torturing a prisoner, even if that prisoner is a grade-A a**hole like KSM.

(Reuters) - The U.S. special forces team that hunted down Osama bin Laden was under orders to kill the al Qaeda mastermind, not capture him, a U.S. national security official told Reuters.
"This was a kill operation," the official said, making clear there was no desire to try to capture bin Laden alive in Pakistan.
Hadn't seen that link yet. Interesting. Perhaps Brennan was trying to put some spin on it, or maybe this unnamed guy was. They took Saddam alive, though apparently he didn't try to put up a fight.
