If gas keeps going up and hits $6 or $7 many people will curtail their driving, some are doing it now.

And the cost of food is going up at an alarming rate.
The rise in gas prices happened when oil rich countries (Libya, etc.) began having internal revolutions, to become democracies.

It is not due to Obama.

And the rise in gas prices also causes inflation elsewhere, since it now costs more for trucking companies to transport merchandise to stores (groceries, etc).

Thanks, I understand Econ 101.

Americans our more concerned how it impacts them directly. They will take that into consideration as to who is in office when they're paying more and saving less.

And they will blame(whether it is fair or not) that on the person in office.

Ask Jimmy Carter.

Is it me or did gas prices also begin their astronomic rise as soon as Republicans took the majority in part of Congress. Inauguration was in January, it didn't take long........

I'm not saying the current Middle East instability wouldn't cause a rise in prices. I do think, however that with the party of big oil having enough power to obstruct things, oil companies and speculators may feel they can milk these events for all they're worth, at the expense of the average American.

Most of the countries revolting represent a small amount of oil production. We get a large portion of ours from Nigeria and the gulf of Mexico. Why gas prices have increased to this proportion is simply speculator greed that won't be curbed with Republicans able to obstruct any common sense bills.

Assassinating Osama Bin Ladin did NOT:

1. Educate one child
2. Provide food for one family
3. Create one job
4. Provide healthcare to a sick senior

Nancy Pelosi blamed the high cost of gasoline on "two oil men" in the White House in 2008.

What is her excuse THIS time?

Scroll a few posts up. All you need is one portion of government to obstruct.

You know, much like the conservatives on here blame the democrats for starting to ruin things in 2006. They didn't control the whole thing, yet they could somehow still take it into a nosedive. Thats the conservative argument.

The oil friendly party (we know who that is) has enough power now to block any sort of reforms, or hold any people exploiting the middle east situation for their own financial gain accountable.

obama is worse than carter.

at least carter didn't devalue our currency.

If someone wants to vote for Obama based on Osama's killing, let them.

It's not like our economy is bad right now...it's not like Americans are struggling to keep their heads above the water, it's not like the unemployment rate is high.

Osama's killing has erased all of our problems!

Republican's have a serious problem that most refuse to acknowledge, and could very easily allow Obama to ride this victory all the way to a second term. The simplistic village idiot, lynch-mob mentality of many (though not all) tea baggers has caused a major cognitive disconnect within the Republican party: the party does not know what it is right now and cannot articulate a clear vision on what it stands for, on how it plans to solve the problems facing America, and even what type of leadership it can provide.

Obama has several weak points that can be easily exploited for a Republican victory in 2012. Healthcare reform is largely unpopular with people in both parties as well as with independents, he is seen as not doing enough to address the job situation in this country, he has not been able to clearly define or articulate our role in Libya. And yet the Republicans can't field or come together around a single serious candidate to run against Obama. There is more interest is in people not likely to seriously run, like Palin and Trump, then in anybody who is likely to run. I like Romney, but the evangelical establishment is not going to go for a Mormon, and his healthcare reforms in Massachusetts will hold him back; Gingrich is a joke, his tendency to trade in wives for the women he cheats with destroys his character, or lack thereof; Huckabee has that whole furloughed-prisoner-killing-cops-thing hanging around his neck like a dead albatross (and went from sounding reasonable to a rambling nut job); and the only guy to really throw his hat in, Tim Pawlenty, looks like the little kid from high school who has only seen a woman naked IN A MAGAZINE!!!

The Obama haters will always vote against him no matter what, the Obama supporters will always vote for him, even though they may feel he has not done enough to promote a humanitarian agenda, it is the independents and moderates that will decide this race as they most often do. Unless the Republicans get their act together, curtail the loud voices of the Nut Jobs that currently scream for most of the attention, and find a credible leader with realistic and thoughtful ideas beyond the narrow appeal of their base, those independents and moderate voters will vote AGAINST them a much as FOR Obama.
