The people took to the streets and there was clashes with police and property damage.
Look it at Egypt one of the main causes of unrest was because the world reserve currency USD lost value and thus the price of food rose. Which put a hardship on their people who were paying what like 50% or more of their income on food. And then you had a domino effect and unrest spread like wild fire through out the ME.
Here, what do you call a rep getting shot in the face? how about all the protest from union members where the states gvt is trying to get their budgets under control? This is just the start we are not even having fun yet. USD is crashing right before our eyes and the whole world knows it,why do you think Barnanke has bought 2 trillion dollars in bonds? HMMM wonder why other countries are seriously talking about a new reserve currency and even our good freinds France/England are on board.
We are going to have big time unrest I just do not know how soon.
Possibly but the op is about income disparity. The reality of the situation is the only people who worry about that are american liberals and socialists of one stripe or another and most of them seem to be upper class whites, ironic that. The reality for the working poor in america is most of us distrust the government far more than any "rich" guy.

The Rich ARE our government and always have been. That being said I think the possibility of riots in the US is slim but it could happen, especially if food prices become unaffordable.

I dont think there will ever be riots in Canada though, they have a very different view on income distribution compared to the US.

The real question today is, how skilled (at getting hired) do you have to be to get a job flipping burgers?

Oh, this reminds me...I read a thread where someone said the average age of fast food workers went from 22 in 2001 to 29.5 in 2010.

So much for minimum wage being a temporary training wage.

I think that could be a scenerio when states and the federal gvt are cutting spending, benifits, and workers. The people could become angry and demand they tax the rich and force them to pay for bloated gvt and the peoples beni's and it could lead to civil unrest. We are sitting on a powdered keg of dynamite and who knows what will be the spark.

i see what you are getting at. There aren't enough jobs out there for everyone. Period. At least not enough unskilled jobs. And everyone knows they don't pay a livable wage. Well its livable if you live with your parents still and bike to work. Anyway, I also know there are a ton of technical jobs out there and not enough Americans to fill them. At my job there aren't enough .Net developers in the area and nobody is biting. My boss said he could get a plane full .Net developers in a hour from India. The jobs are out there, its just a lot of Americans aren't qualified to be hired for them.

Just like many kids have: 1-scholarships, waitressing, student loans, etc.If nothing else and you believe in helping to keep our country free you enlist in the military for 4 years. After you serve you can go to school on the G.Il Bil. I am not sure what your agenda is or what type of life you lead, but you are always referring to the unemployed, and the governmnet giving houses to everyone, cause no one can afford to buy a home without government help.

You know there are jobs for those who are willing to learn a skill. OUr X grandson in law had barely a high school education, but he was not about to live off the government> He went to work for a heating and air conditioning company, learned the trade and at 26 he was making $60,000 a year and that is in AR. Now he has his own small business. Our son in law, after being terminated from his management job several years ago decided he wanted to start his own business but he needed to learn the trade. He went to work for a swimming pool maintainance company, $7.50 an hour, learned the business and now has 20 plus employees, is very successful, spends more time golfing than actually working and couldn't be happier. There will continue to be jobs in the near future that can not be shipped overseas nor can robots replace people for some jobs. People just have to use thier head and be willing to work and learn.

No, we will never achieve a 100% employment rate and right now I feel sorry for those who are trying to find work, but I also think some people are not willing to put forth the extra effort it takes. When somenone talks about being unskilled I have to wonder, why are they unskilled?
