I think you can sustain saftey nets for the totally disabled, but in the real world after 6 months most people should be removed from the roles.

We also have to gut the size of the government employee roles and their unions.

Nice try, this country is way past the point of any meaningful reforms, don't even think about it, you will send people into a tizzy.

It's like slaughtering a pig.

It's gotta be done, and it sure is messy...we're gonna hear lots of squealing' before it's over.

I keep reading that the Fed is recommending a 2 TRILLION dollar increase in the debt limit. So by the end of 2012 we will most likely be at 16 TRILLION, 20 TRILLION by 2016 is real easy to picture.

So when inflation starts to rear its ugly head (already showing in things like food and fuel) the fed will HAVE to raise interest rates, this will make our reckless borrowing much more expensive.

And you see the politicians are jawing big time about closing the budget deficit...........no mention of paying down our horrible debt......not even on the map. Non-discretionary spending is 2.3 trillion and we take in 2.2 trillion, wow, something really wrong there.

WILL THIS COUNTRY EVER BE ABLE TO PAY DOWN THIS HUGE NATIONAL DEBT????

WHAT SOLUTIONS WOULD YOUR OFFER IF ANYBODY WOULD LISTEN TO YOU??????

DO WE NEED A CONSTITUTION AMMENDMENT THAT FORCES A BALANCE BUDGET ON OUR CREEPY POLITICIANS>>>>
NO. We simply need to let Congress know they are doing a lousy job and tell them what to do. Tell them if they vote for any more spending you will NOT vote for their re-election. Easy. Peasy.

Don't write just one letter either. You need to barrage their offices with constant phone calls and make them angry if necessary or send dozens of emails. Better yet send faxes or real letters.

Well, we may get through this current bump in the road ok...........and that means things will just continue as usual. I mean, wasn't this whole financial bailout and monetary injection an attempt to avoid the pain that NEEDS to be felt one way or another????????

I just seen the USA doing everything in it's power to avoid the very painful changes that will have to take place sooner or later.

The huge entitlement problem is something the politicians are very afraid of.

See, the problem is when you "vote the creeps out" you more than likely are going to get more of the same........it is a cycle that keeps repeating over and over and over again.

My opinion is, the last best hope for this once fine country is to ammend the constitution on several issues.........that is probably not going to happen..........more and more areas of this once fine country will resemble a 3rd world country.

The system that is currently in place has to have major changes..........that is very hard to do. Without ammending the constitution.......well....you know...........the creeps in charge have all sorts of ways of getting around laws.

Without either endorsing of condemning it, I though this BBC aricle on the growing debt was an interesting outsider perspective:
Is the US in denial?

"I am not so sure. What is the root cause of America's failure to get to grips with its debt? It can be argued that the problem is not really economic or even political; it is a cultural inability to face up to hard choices, even to acknowledge that the choices are there."
