Yep, the US is going the way of PIGS, one raided pension and one bankrupt state at a time. Yet, people want to keep turning more and more power over to the federal government.
Since our vested pensions were legally voided by corrupt Big Corporation CEOs, I really feel sorry for the pensions of people who get paid far too much, for far too few hours worked (government workers).
Since government workers are paid far more than their private sector counterparts, get vastly better compensation packages with very little contributed by the employee, and work fewer hours, I think it is MUCH more reasonable to severely cut (if not totally void) the pensions of all government workers, rather than cut the Social Security already paid by the Baby Boom for their SS benefits. Yes, they are in different accounts, but government SPENT the $2.5 trillion SS Trust Fund and both are promised entitlements that the taxpayer simply cannot afford. I say cut the retirements of those who already got paid huge amounts by government, rather than those who have PAID government their whole lives and now have a claim to getting a small amount back.
Since government did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to stop Robber-Baron CEOs from raiding private pension funds, let government workers lose a bit of their windfall by getting the same fate. Oh, you were "promised" a lucrative government pension? Well tough. We were "promised" decent (though not nearly as generous as public) pensions, and those disappeared perfectly legally with a scam known as a "change of control."
but wait...the liberals keep spewing how the PO is not a government entity
btw the usps only has about 4 months to live anyhow
what I really love it the way it was writen:
Quote:
"The U.S. Postal Service will begin to default on its financial obligations just over four months from now unless Congress takes action to relieve it of its obligation to pre-fund retiree health care accounts, its leader told lawmakers Tuesday.
USPS expects to post a net loss of $8.3 billion for this fiscal year, nearly as much as it lost last year. And with its $15 billion debt limit due to be reached this year, more borrowing is not an option, Postmaster General Pat Donahoe said in testimony before a subcommittee of the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs committee.
"Despite our aggressive cost cutting and revenue generating efforts, we are in serious financial predicaments today," he said. "As things stand, we do not have the cash to make the $5.5 billion prepayment for future retiree health benefits due on September 30. And we may be forced to default on other payments. This could extend to operational expenses."

most government WORKERS (gs11 and below) make much LESS than their civilian counterparts...to only ones making more are the uppermanagment people..like obamys' czars
and they DO pay(conribute) to the benefit packages...FEHB (their health ins package) is just like anyother worker in the civilain world,, we pay the perimunm for a service that is constantly being cut...ie our health ins went up , even though obamy froze salaries
and hours... I put in 10 hour days..and dont get overtime

The retired at 51 postal worker I know gets free medical and 50+k a year in retirement. Doesn't everyone in the private sector get that and more?

you CAN NOT retire unless you have 30 years at atleast age 55
you PAY into your little 1% pension
you PAY into your 401k (they do match up to 5%)
you PAY for your health insurance....and your life/death benefits if you so CHOSE to have it
you PAY into SS
you PAY federal and state (unless you are in a state without income tax like florida) tax
when I retire in 4 years with my 30 years at age 56.5..I will have to PAY for a continuation of my health benefits out of my pension..untill I hit 65 and it ends and nedicare takes over
the only 'free' benefits I get are from the VA for my combat injuries in Iraq
