The only time I get up someone's back is when they are going slow in the left lane on the interstate.

The left lane is the passing lane and it's illegal to sit in there and clog up traffic... far too many people do that, in Germany they would be fined heavily.

Dude, you're in the left lane. It's the passing lane not the lane to sit back and cruise. You were tailgated because it is the law to merge right and allow faster traffic to pass. People like you cause more accidents because everyone is stuck trying to go around you on the right. It's you who is the problem, not the tailgater.

I think if you get rear-ended, the fault lies on the rear car not the forward car.

It is illegal to plant an obstruction on a public thoroughfare.

car driving the speed limit != 'planting an obstruction'

I get the notion that when some of these people watched the old Andy Griffith show...
that they didn't understand why Barney Fife was being laughed at.

You folks are not Junior Deputies.
it isn't your job to regulate or hinder the flow of traffic...

if you can't or won't run with the Big Dogs... then stay on the porch
(or at least move over to the slow lane like you're supposed to)

IMO you should drive at the speed limit except in adverse weather conditions

e: But the speed limit should also match the type of road. For instance, a lot of the controlled-access highways around here are 55MPH but could easily be 65 or even 70. And there are some normal (but wide) streets that ought to have stricter speed limits.

That's fine for highways, but the majority of roads in this country are not highways. What do you suggest for a law-abiding citizen who's driving on a two lane road and being threatened by a testosterone jockey? Read my earlier post in this thread for what happened to me.

Also, I wonder - if you are doing the speed limit (or, like me, frequently 5 over or so), why would you be obligated to "get out of the way" so someone else can break the law? Granted, unless it leads to an accident, speeding is a minor offense, but why should people need to facilitate it?

Are you a police officer? Is it your job to regulate traffic flow or are you just being a jerk?

People driving slow in the left lane are dangerous. They cause road rage accidents and accidents from people trying to get around them. You drive slow you merge left.

You already said you drive "frequently 5 over or so," so YOU, Emeraldmaiden, are the judge of what the acceptable level of speeding is? Are you qualified to determine this?
