Believe it or not Rome had govenment pensions that they had promised to the government workers, troops but never put money aside for. When everbody was due to retire Rome could not bear the cost.....

There are other parallels with us and Rome...such as the insatiable appetite for war in a militaristic empire.

One big difference, though, they lasted for over 1,000 years.

Really? Martin Armstrong? The thief, tin foil hatted loony, and thinks that markets run on multiples of pi?

I would be ashamed to say that I believed any part of his ranting delusional mess of documents.

Especially his alternate history of the fall of the Roman Empire, since it seems to be supported mostly by him writing until the reader either has a stroke or projectile vomits. Compared to the thousands of real historians and archeological items.

You should e-mail him and ask him if he found where the CIA put his gold yet.

Interesting thread. Rome really feel because the Romans had conquered everything. Had they another continent to invade, they could have kept their gravy train rolling.

That's OK. I guess we're hoping for a different ending.
The debt will magically disappear and we'll be left with a surplus.

Some of the same signs are exact such as debasing the currency only they make Uncle Ben look like a amateur he has only been able to take USD down 97% of it's original value. Military expansion is another, the military industrial complex is alive and well. And of course unfunded social programs unless you count SSI solvent when it is filled with IOU's. But we are Americans this will never happened to us

"What Destroyed Rome was Unfunded Government Pensions -- sounds like where we are headed"

All empires eventually bite the dust, for a variety of reasons.
