The U.S. Supreme Court just handed down a ruling (5 to 4) that California has the right to turn loose thousands of prisoners...I'm sorry, I'm so angry I have forgotten the exact number reported on the news this morning, but it is 40,000 or more as I recall. Yes, I live in California, I was born in the State and except for 2 years when I resided back in New York and Maryland in the late 1950's have lived here all my life.

Now, I have to fear for my life, my property. my possessions, the animals for which I'm responsible and my safety with all these convicted prisoners turned loose and running around free. Thank you to the 3 stupid women on the Supreme Court (2 Obama appointees and 1 Clinton appointee) plus 2 very ignorant men...all guilty of abusing their power to undermine our Constitution, the decent and law-abiding population has just been sold out and had our quality of life undermined. The Supreme Court is to uphold the law of our Constitution...NOT make law from the bench...that's not their job. They have failed time and time again and certainly have really screwed this one up.

Including criminals convicted of stealing, destroying property, breaking-and-entering and who knows what else we are also looking at illegals who have broken our laws a second time after having broken the law to enter this country illegally to start with. Now I have to worry about every noise I hear at night, be careful to whom I might open the door, worry about my horses vulnerability out in their barn and pastures, worry about our heavy equipment yard even more (a lot more) that I did when I thought the criminals were in prison or at least being arrested by the police if they did commit a crime.

What a mess! How in the world did we ever (we the voting citizens) let crap politicians put such incompetent judges on our Supreme Court bench.

This is just another proof that we, the voters, need to be very, very careful about who we elect as President and demand that no President nominates or Senator votes to allow another unqualified judge to be seated in our Supreme Court! Remember, folks...once appointed they are there for life or until resignation. We cannot get rid of them!

When I really think about it, I have come to the conclusion that one of the, if not the, most important job the President has is to nominate candidates for the Supreme Court, then our Senators come into play with the power of their votes to confirm or deny the appointment. We cannot allow them to play politics with this very important process which impacts the freedom of every one of us. After all, our Constitution is the law of this land and the only thing that stands between us and the destruction of our American Democracy bythe horrors of criminal attacks on any of us to by Socialism, Dictatorship and finally Communism...in that order!

Californians don't get much weepy eyes from me.

You wanted tax cuts, you got tax cuts. You want to put every kind of criminal behind bars whether they need to be incarcerated or not but you don't want to pay for it. So, don't blame the Supreme Court for recognizing that the California penal system isn't much of a cut above Devil's Island which is certainly a violation of the Constitution (something you should take out time to read).

First, the point is the Supreme Court has no jurisdiction. Second, the majority of the Californian who don't live in the densely populated "liberal" areas are great, decent people. We, unfortunately have the mess of liberal voters putting a majority of very stupid, self-serving politicians in charge of Sacramento. That's our problem and we need to clean it up, but it does not fall under the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court. As I pointed out, the Supreme Court just created a huge threat to the decent people of California and wherever else these criminals may wander.

Another mess we need to clean up is all the frivolous law-suits brought by ambulance-chasing lawyers. Our legal system from bottom to top is a big mess...way too many lawyers/attorneys and they "create" controversy in order to get a pay check.

What a mess!
Should of legalized marijuana when your state had
the chance. Taxing it, would have provided enough
revenue to take care of all your "real criminals" and
then some

Don't blame the US Supreme Court (or any of the Federal Government) for a state decision by your state government. Blame your state government. Specifically, the executive branch of your state government who's charged with enforcing the laws and the state legislature who allocates the funds. The governator's office chooses where to spend the allocated funds. The state legislature allocates the funds.

One of the biggest problems that I see in American politics is that people look to the Federal Government to solve local issues. Why would you do that?

What kinds of criminals will be set free? There are way too many people in jail that don't belong there anyway. I think jail should be reserved for people who have committed violent crimes.

So what you're saying here is that when you wake up in the morning and someone has made off with your brand new car while you slept that they don't belong in jail?

Well... it wasn't a violent crime says the cop that you call on the phone.

Right. I am not saying they should not be punished, but jail is the wrong sanction for them in my view. For instance the court could sentence the thief to cleaning the owner's car once a week for the next ten years
