I though Joe had a trillion worth of cuts ready ?
Good thing he took off to Rome for the week.

Repubs met with Obama and asked for details on the cuts. They left empty handed.

Now the Dems met with Obama and came out of the meeting with thoughts of "new revenue" and no details on cuts.

What the heck ?????

Democrats, GOP at loggerheads on deficit - Yahoo! News (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110602/ap_on_bi_ge/us_congress_debt_limit - broken link)
"Democratic leaders talking to reporters outside the White House emphasized the need for new revenues as part of any deficit-cutting deal — which generally means new taxes or fees adamantly opposed by Republicans."

That is sad, yet predictable, and shows why any tax increases are pointless. The liberals, given any increase in revenues, will simply blow them on new entitlements and do nothing about the debt.

Liberals, who never seem to understand that we have a spending problem, not a revenue problem, should probably evaluate the above information. Never in the 20th century (or 21st) have politicians used any increased revenue to reduce the debt.

Answer- They must be forced to control spending through a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution. Otherwise, they will simply spend the money, as they always have. They cannot help themselves.

Tax bills in 2009 at lowest level since 1950

Quote:
Amid complaints about high taxes and calls for a smaller government, Americans paid their lowest level of taxes last year [2009] since Harry Truman's presidency, a USA TODAY analysis of federal data found.

Some conservative political movements such as the "Tea Party" have criticized federal spending as being out of control. While spending is up, taxes have fallen to exceptionally low levels.

Federal, state and local income taxes consumed 9.2% of all personal income in 2009, the lowest rate since 1950, the Bureau of Economic Analysis reports. That rate is far below the historic average of 12% for the last half-century.
The "spending problem" we have in this country comes from two wars, the Bush tax cuts, and spending by the federal government specifically designed to help the economy (stimulus, auto bailouts, etc.). The other half of the equation is the sharp drop in federal revenue.

Stop the wars and the Bush tax cuts.

I'm with you on that.
End the 3 wars and revoke the Bush cuts.
Also revoke the new one Obama added..the payroll tax cut. As if SS could use even less money these days.

Now..who in DC will be man enough to do that ?

Just do it already.

Raise taxes on "the rich".

Raise taxes on "greedy corporations".

I will no longer argue about the consequences.

Let the hammer fall.

Nobody is proposing or theorizing "new entitlements".

That's just your misinformed ideology talking.

Not quite.

It's moderate raises in taxes on the rich, moderate cuts in the military.

Not cuts to Social Security or Medicare.

You can balance the budget doing primarily that.

Anybody can see for themselves here

Obama has. He wants to "invest" in education.
The new buzzword is "invest", not spend.

Obama calls for investments in education, R&D - Business - Personal finance - msnbc.com
"President Barack Obama says the U.S. must invest in research and development, science, and especially education — or risk seeing the technological breakthroughs of the future happen in some other country."
