I believe the term that would be more fitting would be pejorative.
Quote:
Definition of PEJORATIVE

: a word or phrase that has negative connotations or that is intended to disparage or belittle : a pejorative word or phrase

Pejorative - Definition and More from the Free Merriam-Webster Dictionary

In conservative America, things associated with Europe most definitely take on pejorative connotations. In that area, Matthews is spot on.

Unfortunately for Mathews, he didn't say that. He is a tool.

Pejorative is the proper word. In right wing America calling someone European is a shortcut for: Lying, cowardly, socialist, and appeasing communist. This is wildly wrong but when has accuracy been a criteria for the RW.

The propaganda has been that Europeans are people enjoying wine in the shade of an Olive tree sipping Tuscan wine. They never see the guy tending a mob of robots in the Ferrari or the Mercedes factory or the vintner growing the grapes on the side of a mountain.

It's much better to an anti-intellectual, ignorant American chump.
Yep. According to Republicans, anyone who doesn't fit this criteria isn't a "real American".

No, the reality is Europeans believe in cradle to grave socialism with no way to pay for it. See Portugal, Italy, Ireland, Greece and Spain.

That's inaccurate in so many ways, from the abuse of the word socialism to the content as such...
Here in Portugal for instance one of the reasons for the problems was that wages rose too fast and undid the countries main competitive advantage, low wages, which were the only reason why companies from Germany etc. came here in the first place years ago. Portugal was considered Europe's China so to speak.
When you look at the budget you will see that social security and health care together account for a similar percentage as in the US.
And unlike in the US here in Portugal hardly anyone can live on welfare alone, there are no food stamps etc. Unemployment benefits run out if you refuse offered jobs.
So many people on CD judge Europe without having lived here or otherwise learned about the details.
Germany has a much more generous social security system (in American terms it is more socialist ) than Portugal or Spain, yet it is doing fine. Same goes for Scandinavia.

Wow. How did you decide that? I think that would be new information for most people.
