"General Motors Co. CEO Dan Akerson wants the federal gas tax boosted as much as $1 a gallon to nudge consumers toward more fuel-efficient cars, and he's confident the government will soon shed its remaining 26 percent stake in the once-bankrupt automaker. A government-imposed tax hike, Akerson believes, will prompt more people to buy small cars and do more good for the environment than forcing automakers to comply with higher gas-mileage standards."

Autos Insider | GM chief pushing for higher gas taxes | The Detroit News (http://detnews.com/article/20110607/AUTO01/106070368/1148/rss25 - broken link)

Soooooo, the reason is not because you make the Chevy Volt that no one wants to buy except for the federal government? The government owns you (figuratively speaking). No one believes a thing you say. You sell these cars dealer to dealer for a tax break, that's how you get your sales numbers, but you want us to pay more for gas?

"GM's sales for the Chevy Volt in May fell to 481 units. Many apologists for the Volt will continue to claim that supply is still not available to meet the strong demand. It certainly doesn't seem that way to me, but time will tell. I recently reported that Chevy dealers, and others, might be gaming Chevy Volt tax credits speculating that demand could not be that high if Chevy dealers were selling inventory to other dealerships. The report has stirred much debate. Most feedback agrees with the assertion that dealerships taking tax credits is wrong, but some accusations have been made that the report was biased by a right wing hatred for green autos. This seems to be a popular political tactic used when certain ideologies are presented with criticism; ignore the facts and attack the source."

Bailed-Out GM Relies on Incentives; Volt Sales Underwhelm | National Legal and Policy Center

"According to a recent report by Mark Modica, published by the nonprofit National Legal and Policy Center, some Chevrolet dealers are selling Volts to other dealers and claiming the maximum $7,500 green-vehicle federal tax credit for themselves. As second-hand owners, the dealers who bought the Volts then sell them used to private buyers, who no longer qualify for the credit. The credit is offered as an incentive to purchasers of alternative-powertrain vehicles like the purely electric Nissan Leaf and the Volt, a plug-in hybrid."

When your company is owned by the government and you as the CEO are appointed by the government, you stick with the administrations talking points. Unless you have integrity, in which case you wouldn't have made it to CEO of government motors.

General Motors, a once-great company down the toilet. They still have some great products (Camaro SS and the Duramax diesel come to mind) but also a lot of crap. They p*$$ away billions on PC green junk (EV-1, H2 fuel cells, Volt) rather than focusing on making great cars and trucks.

Yet another thread where right wingers argue for solving the Nation's problems by demanding that no sacrifice at all fall on anybody.

Dependence on foreign oil? ....can't consider a gas tax.

Arguing for cutting medicare and social security....can't consider a gas tax.

What cleaner air?.....can't consider a gas tax.

Want innovations in fuel efficiency?......can't consider a gas tax.

Let's just cut everyone's medicare and social security because....it would be so brutal and mean to levy a beneficial form of taxation.

Not only that, but this will make your blood boil;

GM Admits that Dealerships are Taking Chevy Volt Tax Credits | National Legal and Policy Center

Quote:
He then goes on to confirm that the dealerships purchasing Chevy Volts and reselling them as used vehicles are entitled to the $7,500 tax credit.
The tax credit meant for consumers are being swooped up by dealerships. You want to know why?

Because no one wants to buy their tin can death trap.

Quote:
If demand is so high for the Chevy Volt, why would a Chevy dealership sell the vehicle to other dealerships, particularly when there are supposedly customers lined up to pay full price? GM is exaggerating the "high demand" for the Volt. And allowing dealerships to take the tax credit intended for consumers is just wrong.
Yes, it is, but this is obama's Government Motors and they don't do things the normal, above board way.

Another fine example of Government being in bed with Big Business.

This message needs to get out to the people who think that the Government is out to protect us. Its not. Its big. Its bloated. Its corrupt. And its looking out for who its partnered up with, which isn't you and me. Its Corporations. Its disgusting. And they have suckered in so many with their "just being kind to the environment/save the planet/green kumbaya agenda.

Don't raise the gas tax, take away big oil subsidies and tax breaks.
