...is UNemployable? You see, there is a large segment of the population that can't find a job because they refuse to do manual labor such as farm work or even picking up garbage. Oh and fast food is off the table. So immigrants, legal or illegal have taken up the slack. Don't blame them...someone has to do it. Therefore, all the people who used to do those jobs are now unemployable because they are holding out for something better. Something they are not qualified for. We will ALWAYS have an 8-10% unemployment rate. 9% is the new 5%.

Lol...love your post. It's a good point.

My friend said something the other day that I thought was highly...er...controversial...

He said that he thinks this is a recession of the uneducated. Anyone highly trained and skilled still has a job. It's the dime a dozen jobs that are running out.

I told him to watch out which company he says that kind of stuff in...though it explains why I don't know anyone struggling with employment.

There are some people who would cost a business more than if they didn't employ someone... I know some of these people... they don't work unless they "want" to and they complain whenever they go to work, so much that their coworkers are annoyed... There is always someone that doesn't have the "dedication" to work... what do we do with these people? I mean all the CEO jobs are already filled...

Not at all. That's why you see places like home improvement stores or other retailers, fast food, etc. advertising a few low paying job openings and hundreds of people show up.

I also think another problem is that jobs require putting down the cell phone for 8 hours or so and some people can't handle that. Everyone who is now 18-25 will define the "Laziest Generation".

Really?

I have a BA and 30 years office experience. My brother has a BS and 35 years experience as a paramedic. He is also pursuing another degree, in nursing. My coworker has a BA and 30 or more years of experience (was VP at a major financial firm, until it fell). My best friend has an AA and is pursuing a degree in Nursing.

Uneducated?

No offense, but nothing you've said refutes what my friend said.

When a job doesn't even pay enough to live off of, where's the motivation for someone to do it?

It's called taking pride in one's self. Like I said...laziest generation up and coming. Also, nothing says you can't have two jobs.
