Half end in divorce. Who knows how many more are unhappy. Done for money, insurance, citizenship.

What exactly is so special about marriage that homosexuals getting a chance at it will tarnish?

And please, if your argument is that suddenly people will start marrying animals, explain that one. Explain how that marriage could possibly occur even if everyone wanted it to.

They use slippery slope arguments and then run to the bible when that fails. Using a holy book to justify your position would be great if we lived in a Theocracy. Unfortunately for them, we do not. We live in America and adhere to the Constitution. Of course the bible also advocates polygamy, so I don't see why they are so stuck on "one man/one woman" marriage model. But that's how cherry pickers and bigots roll...

Marriage should not be entered into lightly.

I cherish my marriage of 20 years to my best friend and soul mate in life.

Why do people think their union is not legit unless the government recognizes it?
That's the real crock.

I personally consider marriage and civil unions very different things. Marriage is sacred, and is only valid in the eyes of my Christian faith. Civil unions - I couldn't care less who engages in them.

To summarize: marriage is sacred, civil unions are not. Please don't confuse the two.

I can certainly agree with that.

On that note, if government must be involved, then why aren't homosexuals inclined to lobby for civil unions instead? Afterall, the only reason they want to be married to begin with is for the $$$$$. Preserve the man/woman marriage tradition and go for what you're really after..........

I thought that is all homosexuals were asking for: civil unions. Marriage is a religious ceremony/joining together performed by a religious organization who, based on their beliefs, has the right to not perform a marriage.

For me, my marriage in a church did not afford me any governmental rights. I had to back it up with a license at the courthouse. The state did recognize my religious officiant. If I didn't have one of those, a judge would have done it. But I guess not if I was entering into a same-sex marriage.

Marriage is a ceremony between a man and a woman, to further the species we call homosapien/human beings.

What the freaks of nature want, is a legal contract that they can use to fraud society, into thinking they are capable of procreation and all the benefits that marriage gives to a functioning society.
