COLUMBUS, Ohio, June 12 (UPI) -- Domestic and feral cats kill up to a billion birds in the United States every year, a study shows.
A 2010 study by University of Nebraska Extension researchers found the cats are causing $17 billion in damages to bird-watchers, hunters and wildlife, The Columbus (Ohio) Dispatch reported Sunday.
I don't know about other parts of the country, but here in New York City cats kill a lot of pigeons. That is to say, germ spreading dirt factories known as pigeons. Granted, they're the most inoffensive of creatures--but their presence in the city qualifies as an epidemic. Cats certainly are not hurting the situation.
I like cats and own several and as much as I hate to think about them being ferel it's just a fact. We can't eliminate the problem, we just have to accept that birds will die. If they didn't, we might have too many birds. Or something...you know.
Actually, you can eliminate the problem...or at least severely limit the problem.
You kill the cats.
Just like you would kill any other destructive and invasive species.

I shoot ferel cats whenever the opportunity presents itself. They are hell on the native quail population.

You really cannot differentiate between livestock and a feral predator species?

No, that is not the circle of life. Humans have a responsibility not to allow domesticated species to run feral. We have the problem with feral cats due to irresponsible humans.
