I don't condone it in any way, the guy will pay for his stupidity.
It happened around 10pm and the kids had been doing this the night before with many calls to the police unfortunatly they picked someone with a problem and paid a heavy price for their actions, the parents also should have had more control of a 12 year old being out at 10pm.
It's a sad deal, I hope the kid recovers and I'm sure the group has learned a valuble lesson.

WTF? Please tell me most right wingers don't buy into this crap. So people are not allowed to ring a door bell? What the hell is it there for then? The punishment for ringing a door bell is getting shot in the back and shoulder? This applies to 12 year olds??

This guy is going to go to prison for attempted murder because he shot a kid in the back for ringing his doorbell and running away. He deserves to get locked up. The end.

statements like that are the reason I don't usually like professing my support for the right to bear arms. People immediately equate me with folks who use that line of logic.

There definitely needs to be a way to weed out the crazy unstable people from buying weapons. Hopefully the guy gets a very hefty sentence.

The uncle said:

"Eberle's uncle, Bart McMahon, told Kentucky's WLKY "It's outrageous, it's intolerable and that's why we have prisons for people who can't confine their behavior within the bounds of law.""

Pot, meet kettle...

By his own words, his nephew should be in prison instead of in a hospital.

While I don't condone shooting someone outside of one's home, the kids was deliberately doing this to cause the old guy stress and anxiety, all in the name of "fun". Bad choice, junior!

For the kid's part in bringing this on, despite not deserving to be shot as a result, I'd classify this under "unfortunate" rather than "tragic". Give the shooter a ticket for illegal discharge of a gun within city limits and a heavy fine.

Personally I'd just disconnect my doorbell if I were having such troubles from neighborhood miscreants.

There's a difference between a gun nut and a nut with a gun!

But I don't feel sorry for the bunch of jerky kids, either. It wasn't like they were shot on the way to church. They were willfully trespassing and annoying the sh*t out of the guy.
I personally would have caught one by the scruff of the neck and dragged him over to his parents' house and demand they do something about it.
This stupid permissive 'harmless prank' 'boys will be boys' bullsh*t needs to stop, too.
I think what needs to stop is people with no sense of humor.
