I want to thank you for making out of control spending politically possible. I would never have been able to get away with spending so much had you not made massive spending increases politically possible through your sound arguments that deficits are good and that military spending is always justified.
I have been able to take these arguments to the American people to justify my own out of control spending. Of course, my predecessor George W. Bush helped, but he was merely emulating your spending patterns. Today our deficit is higher than it has ever been and I want to let you know that I owe you a debt of gratitude for being the Godfather of crazy spending.

This is truly a curious post. The author seems to be under the impression that Obama had out do the Presidents he is criticizing. Reagan's downing was barely a blip compared to Obama. If Obama thinks Reagan was a profligate spender why has he gone nuts with the pocketbook. Your post truly makes no sense and really is a condemnation of Obama.

The president has veto power over the budget, has the bully pulpit, has his VP presiding over the Senate (which must approve the House budget) and the president has generally set the agenda for most of the 200 plus years of our existence as a country. But, yes, you win on a technicality.

The point was actually to criticize both as profligate spenders and to point out that Reagan set the tone, Bush II continued it immediately before Obama and both parties are equally guilty in our horrible financial mess.

Agreed. I never understood why people were so orgasmic about Reagan. He set the tone for this mess (overspending and expansion of militarism and economic policies that pushed the country further away from the more egalitarian society it was in during the mid 20th century) and the other clowns followed. Some people focus too much on his words and not enough on his actions. However, at least in the 90's it looked like at least on the debt was under control, cant say the same for the perpetual bubbles in the economy.
Too bad the old fart didn't pick Ron Paul as his running mate.
