By Helene Shill & Mark Milquetoast

WASHINGTON- President Obama declared Wednesday that the United States had largely achieved its goals in Afghanistan, testing new weapons for the Pentagon, making Halliburton really rich, laying waste to wide stretches of countryside, bombing villages until "they ain't villages no moe", running over lots of children in the street using big green vehicles, machine gunning down families daily, and torturing and stabbing people in dark dungeons.

Mr. Obama declared that "the tide of war is receding, ah, except for in Yemen and Libya, where it is expanding, and also anywhere else we feel like murdering thousands of non-caucasian people in cold blood, bombing the living crud out of cities people live in, dragging people out of their homes at night, and lying about it."

Mr. Obama announced very tentative plans to withdraw 10,000 troops from Afghanistan starting soon in 2015, but warned the troops might need to make a brief stopover in Libya on the way home back to the US.

Mr. Obama acknowledged in his remarks, “We will not try to make Afghanistan a perfect place,” he said. “In fact, the place was already a defenseless, run-down dump and we shlt all over it some more, since our military never picks a fair fight."

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was reportedly none too happy about the decision, saying "Everyday I see evidence that a few Afghans still have all of their arms and legs intact. I'm not sure our work is finished. Surely there are a few young Afghan girls yet to be tied up, raped, and a grenade stuffed in their mouth and the pin pulled, all caught on helmet cam video for fun and laughs."

Senior administration officials said Wednesday that the military campaign had made Afghans better able to scream and die with pain and horror. Troops have succeeded in clearing many towns and cities of insurgents, and then keeping them safe since no life can return to the area without massive birth defects from all the depleted uranium munitions used, for example.

There are multiple threads on this.

The amount of troops being cut is no big deal because in the end Obama will still have more troops in Afghanistan then when he took office.

I believe this is only a personal political move by Obama to gain back the chunk of voters he lost.

Sure, he has put America last before why not do it some more.

The election is being talked about so Obama is making moves for himself.

We have not seen anything yet, the closer we get to election time the more he will pretend, lie and scam people into thinking he is doing something great when it is all just smoke bombs going off.

If you remember he said he was going the END both of these wars. Guess he changed his mind after he took office.

Yeah, pretty much. Obama should have received a Nobel prize for acting, and nothing else. He is a disgusting charlatan who swindled half the country with his phony act.

Nothing is more foul in this world than someone who does evil and passes themselves off as some do-gooder dandy-boy.

Achieved it's goals...if you think back we originally went into Afghanistan to get Bin Laden, not "bring democracy" to a people.

Bin Laden is dead. Bring them ALL home and leave them fighting among themselves as all other countries that went into Afghanistan did.

True. Although I guess one of the reasons for not doing that is the fear of the Taliban taking over again and thus - again - providing a safe haven for Al Qaida and other unpleasant characters.

I would personally just fly a couple of thousands of drones over Afghanistan and Northern Pakistan, as to detect and destroy any possible threat on the spot.

1. When the troop surge was announced in December 2009, President Obama laid out the plan to begin (not complete) the drawdown in July 2011.

Obama orders Afghanistan surge - Spokesman.com - Dec. 2, 2009

2. President Obama campaigned on intensifying US military efforts in Afghanistan, he didn't promise to end the war there from the outset. While conservatives were, by and large, supportive of the troop increase, they blasted him for "dithering" on the decision, and for not increasing it as much as McChrystal asked for. They also criticized him for announcing a timetable for withdrawal. And Democrats criticized him for what they thought was a too-slow pace for withdrawal of troops.
