The question has to do with whether or not you have a right to simply take something that isn't yours just because you need it for your "national security." Why should other nations give a damn about our national security? Answer: they shouldn't.
If someone else has oil and you need it, then the proper thing to do is barter for it. If they won't give it to you, then too bad. Find another energy source. But might doesn't make right. If it does, then we had no right to kick Iraq out of Kuwait.
