How did this country come to embrace ignorance as a badge of honor?
The problem lies in drawing the line between healthy skepticism and conspiracy thinking. Someone formulating the question "How could they bend their limbs in a pressurized space suit?" should be encouraged. Constant-volume joints make for an awesome little piece of engineering, and one might get a refresher on partial oxygen pressure as well. So thanks to people like DifferentDrum, I got the impetus to read up on Apollo in a big way a few years back. Amazing what humans can build.
However, the idiot asking "Wharr the STARS in the photos? Wharr?" isn't willfully embracing ignorance, he's just bolstering up his self-image. He gets to feel he's in the know and that the rest of the world is deluded.
So where is his motivation to learn a little bit about exposure times and f-stops? Taking in a small amount of photographic knowledge will only serve to make him feel that while he now knows a little bit more, the people who built something big like Apollo were thousands of times more knowledgeable.
Acquiring actual knowledge makes the conspiracy theorist feel smaller. So he fights it.
These hoaxers on here are FOS and just playing games, they know damned well it wasn't faked.
