After the liberals don't compromise and we default on our debt, how exactly will my finances be affected, assuming my small business doesn't go under.

I know that interest rates will wise, but I'm assuming this is for new debt, is this true?

For example, if I have a conventional fixed rate mortgage, will my payments be affected? I don't care if the value of the property tanks, I just don't want my monthly payments to be affected.

Also, what about credit cards? Will I have rate hikes for those?

Will the dollar be devalued and everyday items like milk and bread be affected?

Prepare your family for the coming social collapse.

Stock up on the essentials.

Keep BOTH EYES OPEN.

Too late. We're already in the aftermath of conservative destruction of America and living in the hell hole created by those who backed them and now have to whine all the time of "Why me????".

Conservatives destroyed America's prestige, foundations, wealth, and future.

We're all just trying to p/up the pieces now.

You're too late already.

The Republicans ruined the economy several years ago. The comeback from the near-depression level foul-up has been slow and halting. Now, the Pubs seem to be determined to wreck it all over again. Stay tuned for further developments.

You will not be affected, in the sense that you will continue to blame the wrong people.

The problem with democrats not budging on the issue of PERMANENT tax hikes is that they want the FUTURE revenue for ADDITIONAL spending (lets not pretend to be idiots, shall we?)... so if they don't budge and we default, it will be predominantly a problem for Big Business and Big Government... they can't spend AND profit off any of that borrowed money... how will you be affected? Not much, but products and services will be more expensive... if they can't steal from the borrowed money, they will steal from you directly... the whole point of borrowing is to steal from you and you don't even know it and not likely to notice...

Another not-so-bright poster polluting C-D...

It was not conservatives who have allowed and enabled illegal aliens to flow into the country, or kept the anchor baby 14th amendment protected to buy votes, or fought legislation requiring the display of photo ID at voter booths like 20 democratic senators did last week, or ally themselves with public unions who are nothing but a cancer on this country's economy, or allow 50% of the nation to stop paying federal taxes, or expand SS/Medicare and medicaid to stupendous levels virtually bankrupting the nation, or offer endless handouts in public union employee pensions to buy votes from public union employees, or elect a liberal/far-left president who has no clue about foreign policy and has angered our allies while emboldening our enemies, etc.

No superstar, it was not conservatives who did such things.

Compromise defined, by Republicans:

When Democrats agree to all, or nearly all, of Republican demands.
And when Republicans concede nothing.

And Strel is correct in the answer to OP.
