That certainly wouldn't hurt.

I have noticed a lack of liberals on here defending the teachers. But, they are always out in force when we talk about teacher unions and benefits they don't want to pay for.

Exactly!

Central planning almost always lowers the bar, increases waste and increases fraud.

That's why we need a huge shift in power from the Federal level to the State level.

Yes. These people are typical bullies and power abusers. People in a position of power who abuse that power are at the same level as child abusers.

Fire them all.

I will say that one of the reasons we have such crappy teachers is because those who would be great teachers do other things because the pay is so bad.

This is one thing the Europeans do far better than we do, and there's little question about that.

Parental involvement is probably the single most important factor in determining the success of education.

The solution is to get the Feds totally out of education... and even the states... make education a local issue.

That is how it was originally intended.

Put the power back in the hands of those who are close enough that they actually can make a judgement on what is best for their community and can be held personally accountable.

Pay is bad? Here in NJ the average is 58k. Not bad for 8 months work and summers off.

Here is another, even more detailed story about this incredible scandal. The layers of lying, cover up, and deception involved in this massive cheating scandal are almost unbelievable. This went on for a decade, with confirmed cheating going on in 44 schools. 178 educators have been named in the report, including 38 principals. 80 confessions have already been obtained.

"At Venetian Hills, a group of teachers and administrators who dubbed themselves “the chosen ones” convened to change answers in the afternoons or during makeup testing days, investigators found. Principal Clarietta Davis, a testing coordinator told investigators, wore gloves while erasing to avoid leaving fingerprints on answer sheets."

"At Gideons Elementary, teachers sneaked tests off campus and held a weekend “changing party” at a teacher’s home in Douglas County to fix answers."

"Cheating was “an open secret” at the school, the report said. The testing coordinator handed out answer-key transparencies to place over answer sheets so the job would go faster."

Investigation into APS cheating finds unethical behavior across every level *| ajc.com

And we wonder why Johnny can't read or why kids cheat.

Everyone of those found guilty here should be forced to tutor these kids free of charge for the rest of their school days to try and make up for the help the kids would have gotten based on their true test scores.(Some, of course, from prison as felony crimes have been cited.) And the Federal Dept of Education, with all their mandated dehumanizing, worthless testing needs to be abolished.

If kids understand concepts there is no reason for rote homework to take up hours of their so you can go home and play xbox instead of engaging with your kids.

I always scratch my head at parents who complain that teachers aren't teaching their kids the right things or the right way...are they too stupid to realize THEY can teach their kids stuff too?
