Isn't that part and parcel of what gays are constantly screaming about, "partner can't get federal benefits, etc".

Well, the reason why is because FEDS DON'T RECOGNIZE GAY MARRIAGE.

You need to ask yourself, where in the USA would a marriage by a gay couple be recognized if they were married on fed property? NOWHERE!

It's a state issue not federal.

Fight for the recognition by the FEDS, take it to the Supreme Court. Then get married on a military base.
Huh? Confused much?

Marriages on federal property are undertaken with a marriage license from the state/district where the property is located. For example, people like to get married in National Parks. Do you know how that is done? All you need is to get a special-use permit from the NPS, pay a fee ($50, $100 - it varies with the specific unit) and a valid marriage license from the state/district where you want to get married.

Do you have any idea how many NPS units there are in MA, CT, IA, VT, NH, DC and NY?

67

Any marriage valid in the above jurisdictions (which all recognize same-sex marriages) can be performed in a National Park just by getting a marriage license, filling out the special-use permit, and paying the fee.

Some day people will look back on these ignorant times with disbelief. Our government is paranoid for no good reason. The right wing is full of bigots and small minded people.
The Bill of Rights was written to protect the minority from the tyranny of the majority. Everyone should be allowed to marry if they wish. It should not be left up to the states. Inner racial marriage and civil rights would NEVER have happened if left up to states rights.

I don't really care. Really. Gay marriage isn't status quo at this point. Maybe someday, maybe not, but not right now.

It's almost comical to see the "gay panic" that continues among many in Congress. I wonder if they even bother to consider the Constitution when they vote on things like this. Doesn't look like it.
The US is still backwards in a lot of areas.
