Anyone else? Does the media make it worse than it sounds or is our civilization really teetering on the edge of disaster?
Yep!

How can the world past and present not feel unstable. People are not stable to beging with, so how can we be stable. Humans are not perfect, and humans are not stable, i feel that the media these days, portrays to much negative things, instead of the positive. But then positive don't sell. People have not really changed thru out time, there are just more of us, and more loons.

Things are just not simple any more, because times we live in our purely not simple. There will always be good against evil, those out to get us, people hell bent on commiting crimes, while so many believe in being good. People have changed because of the times we live in, too many are on drugs, drink too much, not good parenting, young teens getting pregnant, this has always been, unstable as the humans living.
The only thing we can do is simply live our life to the fullest, and appreciate each and every day we have here on earth.

Your instincts are correct. However... the teetering can take a LONG time for it go one way or the other.... If we could just get enough people to scramble over to the correct side of the boat.... all at once.... we could save the world.

Or maybe... wait.... fewer people.... would be the answer. More people = more disaster. Fewer = less, IMO.

Yes, the end is coming. Slowly. You have to hack out your own little safe niche. The world will probably still be teetering in 40 years when you are older than you'd ever dream you could be : )

Not to worry, but it's germs that will cause a mess in the future. We're living in a small window of anti-biotic protection, but it won't last forever. That, and population growth are sure to cause trouble down the road...but it is down the road. To the OP though, be more like Bobbie McFerrin...Don't Worry, Be Happy!

People living in the 1930s and the 1960s would be laughing at us right now.

Things are rough now, yes, but there have always been times of roughness throughout the world and we all have prevailed.

Things will get better, but it won't be anytime soon. Still, I voted:

Nothing's impossible, but it doesn't look likely

It feels unstable...but I am OK with that. The only constant thing in life is that everything always changes. There is never any real 'stability'. Bad things don't happen when things become unstable, bad things happen when people stop adapting to change.
