Deteriorating Transportation Infrastructure Could Cost America $3.1 Trillion

This would be a perfect opportunity to create real jobs by repairing the infrastructure. How would it get paid?

Libertarian approach - put a toll booth every 2 miles. You use the road you pay.

Republican approach - don't do anything, it is the illegals using the roads that are causing all of the problems. They all ride low-riders which cause pot holes. So rid of illegals...no problem.

Democrat response - raise gas taxes to pay for the roads, which is actually closer to the libertarian response, without the frequent stops.

So why aren't all these unemployed construction workers, engineers, and others not being put to work fixing this stuff? I see bad roads, trash, delapitated bridges, etc. everywhere I drive nowadays. THe unemployed should be put to work. If the government cant afford it the rich should pony up the funds instead of sitting on their goddamn wealth!

I'm all for privatizing some roads.

Road Privatization: Explaining the Trend, Assessing the Facts, and Protecting the Public - U.S. PIRG

Let the private sector maintain and charge for their use. If they do a bad job they won't be used and they won't make money.

Apparently the OP doesn't understand that the federal fuel tax is a slush fund for all government spending. It is not in a "lock-box" for roads and infrastructure.

Please actually have some knowledge of the subject upon which you base your threads. It is embarrassing!

You don't even understand the difference between taxation and voluntary toll road use.

We already do pay, it's called gasoline taxes, and there would be plenty of them if they weren't raided to pay for mass transit and other pet projects that buy Democrats votes...

Gimme a break. We played this game already.
Shovel ready jobs, fixing America's crumbling infrastructure.
STIMULUS got passed.
Friends got funded, very little got fixed.

Why don't we all just do some volunteer pothole filling, bridge inspecting, and paving on the weekends?

If it came to it, I think my community would help out. I live in flood country. We've routinely seen thousands turn out to fill sandbags every weekend.

Maybe we need to take on more individual responsibility.

Unions won't allow it.
