True to form, the name of the bill has little to do with what it actually does. It is named what it is: “Protecting Children from Internet Pornographers Act of 2011” so the dummies in Congress that won't actually read the bill will just go ahead and pass it because it sounds like it is about protecting children NOT.
What H.R.1981 will mandate is that Internet Service Providers (ISPs) keep a copy of EVERYTHING YOU DO on the internet for 18 months including ; searches you did; bank account numbers; credit card numbers; transactions you made; websites you visited; how long you were there.
Jeepers! When will it end? This is like the so-called "Food Safety Moderinization Act" which has had the effect of government shutting down lemonade stands and harrassing and even arresting people trying to grow vegetables in their front yard.
Does ANYONE Care about FREEDOM and Privacy anymore? Are we going to let this one pass too?

By your description this bill sounds like it WILL do what is says it will. I could care less if it also notices I drop shipped the Anarchists Handbook from Amazon to some RWA I happen to despise.

It requires them to keep your ISP on file.
I couldn't find anywhere the claims you were making in the above post.
If you could specifically point out where it says it will do the things you claim it would be greatly appreciated.
From everything I read it DOES NOT do the things the OP claims but rather makes them keep the ISP information for 18months.
So, if the police call them up with a WARRANT and says hey we busted this kiddie porn website and ISP=123456789 posted kiddie porn there, can we get his name and address?
So, is your objection to this or to an alleged other use? If so, please specifically point out to the section you object too.
We get so many crappy threads around here where someone posts a link and then utterly makes up what it actually says.

If it wasn't for the fact that you are selling out other peoples liberty, I pray, and hope, and wish, that you get exactly what you desire. You deserve it.

Actually warrants aren't needed anymore. The patriot act killed that. Plenty of searches and snooping w/ no warrants what so ever. Heck plenty of curious people can pay google or verizon about 40 bucks for a dump of your account.
The storage of ISP information can log a great deal of data. Depends on what they are capturing. At a near minimum ips and url's. Certain things like credit card numbers should be encrypted, but it would point to where you bank etc...
No surprise the govt is gobbling up the little bits that are left the past few years.

What if they make a mistake and mess up your IP address with a sex offender and go after YOU?!!!!!!!
Considering, for all intents and purposes you are guilty until proven innocent, there is no Habeas Corpus anymore and they can freely throw you in jail without you being able to contact an attorney and hold you as long as they like, wouldn't you prefer they continue on as we used to when the country was still FREE and force them to show probably cause and then forced them to get a warrent for your arrest??????
Also won't this just open up the internet for more identiy theft? Everyone at the ISPs will have acces to all your private info.
Or, are you so interested in helping the government goons catch a pedophile that you don't mind spending years in jail unjustly?
