More and more, the ignorant belief that all CO2 is "bad" and that the US economy is killing the planet (China is ok because they aren't evil Americans) is thankfully falling away.

Global warming is a natural event... it is mostly caused by water vapor which is naturally emitted. We can't do anything about it really

One thing I would be more concerned about is the dwindling supply of clean drinking water we have on earth. I read an interesting article recently about how some scientists were considering harvesting icebergs for fresh water... One thing is for sure-- "global warming" is one of the least important environmental issues. Especially when you consider what is going to occur when the world gets closer and closer to being out of drinking water while our population (which will be at 7 billion later this year) gets bigger and bigger-- 9 billion by 2020 I read somewhere...

The idea that human activity has caused and is causing climate changes is opposed by two different general groups of people:

- The business wing opposes this idea because it implies that businesses should do something other than maximize the amount of money coming in. They know full well what climate change is doing, but anything resembling corporate responsibility is anathema to the philosophy of free market over all. Combating climate change would mean combating the culture of needless consumption and expansion that Capitalism requires in order to fulfill its purpose of making the rich richer.

- Religious folks oppose the idea on the grounds of an expanded idea of manifest destiny. God put us here to be fruitful and multiply, and implying that we should maybe check ourselves or exercise restraint goes against that idea. Besides, the Rapture is coming any day now anyway. They also oppose climate change out of the general "culture war" ideals of simply opposing science in general.

That finding is, frankly, very sad. And terrible news for our kids.

It demonstrates that corporate propaganda and obfuscation will win over one hundred years of unassailable science. Go ahead cut their taxes some more, so they have more money to manufacture moronic consensus.

Sad to say, but snake oil would sell very well if Glen Beck and Rush Limbaugh were selling it. A sad state of affairs in a country with the supposedly greatest education system in the world.

We have officially become a laughing stock of the world.
