Tea Party Patriots super PAC raises $2 million

A super PAC affiliated with one of the nation's most prominent Tea Party groups raised $2 million during the first six months of the year, campaign-finance reports filed Wednesday show.Although super PACs can raise unlimited amounts of money, more than $8 out of every $10 collected by the Tea Party Patriots Citizens Fund came in chunks of $200 or less, according to the group's first fundraising report with the Federal Election Commission.
The group, launched in February, is aimed at holding politicians who support "higher taxes and even higher spending accountable," according to a statement by Jenny Beth Martin, the national coordinator of Tea Party Patriots. At the time, she said the group was willing to defeat "big-government politicians in primaries" regardless of party.
