Where has Republican intellectualism gone?

I miss people like William F. Buckley.

Our party has been hijacked by overzealous fundamentalist idiots

we need doers not talkers. There is way too much emphasis put on "intellectuals". Intellectuals for the most part are just academia dreamers who put theories on paper and tout how wonderful they would be.

I'm not disagreeing with that, but Chrisitan fundamentalism is exerting way too much influence over the party.

The Reagan era was good balance this is out of control.

It's tragic.

This country does need a conservative voice, but it seems that voice has been drowned out by authoritarian crypto-fascists.

(Which Buckley was not, no matter what Gore Vidal said).

The Republcan Party will get even more extreme in the future. It's kinda like the super-nova effect. The less they appeal to moderates the more they will try to hold on to hard right extremist.

It's been replaced by paranoid knuckle dragging flat earthers like Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck.

I hear what you are saying, but you have to realize that this religious uptick in Republican candidates is a direct response to the fact that the far Left has been trying to get rid of faith in God. The religious right knows this, so they are there to counter balance it. I'm not religious and would not vote for a religious "nut" anyway, but it is what it is.

The Republican Party has only moved right in response to the Democratic Party's move left. Unless something dramatic occurs, both parties will become more extreme.

But why the hostility towards intellectualism?

Does extreme = intellectually lazy?
