Nobody is falling for this BS post. Please, you can do better than this lame attempt at criticism. Try Rush, Sean, Larry Elder, Dennis Prager etc.

If the Democratic Party has moved all that far left how do you explain Obama's support of the Patriot Act, deals with China and continuing to be international oil's favorite thug?

I am a leftist and I can tell you the Democrats and Obama are not.

What a sack of ****. Why do people rely on others to uphold their own private faith and belief. Even in concentration camps, the Jews kept their faith.

I liked Buckely he at least made some sense, now the right as the likes of Rush, Hannity, Beck, Palin and Coulter. Talk about DOWNGRADING, looks like it went right through the floor.

No, the liberal media wants us to think that most Republicans are the religious nuts, so they give them all the air time.

But George Will is still writing excellent and intellectual pieces on topics of national interest, and Thomas Sowell can't be beat for intellectual economics and politics. They are there, but don't expect the liberal media to give them air time.

Must-reads by George Will: "Minds opening to libertarian ideas" Minds opening to libertarian ideas - Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, 'The debt deal and Obama’s 2012 problem" The debt deal and Obama’s 2012 problem - The Washington Post, and "John McCain’s never-ending war" John McCain’s neverending war - The Washington Post.

And by Thomas Sowell (who happens to be African-American, for those who think fiscal conservatives are racist): "The Missing Money (Social Security)" Thomas Sowell, "Debt-Ceiling Chicken" Thomas Sowell, "A Pyrrhic ‘Victory’" Thomas Sowell, "Unknown Unknowns" Thomas Sowell.

This is your answer OP on what has happened to the republican party. These people have been suckered in and believe all these doomsday "They're coming to get me! Aaahhh!!" fear tactic propaganda from the Fox news/Beck/Limbaughs on the far right.

Can you blame them? Did the GOP not hand them a loaded gun on that issue?

Au contraire! I read them all the time, even if I don't always agree with them. Sadly their voices are being drowned out, and it is NOT just because of the media.

I've seen it with my own eyes. Exasperated mainstream Republicans struggling not against the Democrats (with whom they can eventually find some middle ground), but with the crazies in their own party.

I, and millions of other Americans would be a lot more likely to vote GOP if the party had more candidates that sounded like Will and Sowell than Bachmann or Palin.

If Thomas Sowell spoke at a auditorium how many Republicans would show up. Compare that to the number that would show up for Glenn Beck.

No one is denying that there are intellectual Republicans. They however appear to be shadowed by the Sarah Palin's.

I had heard that that recent polls (I can't find where I saw it now, maybe someone can post it here) that the Democratic Party has actually not moved much from their core values and goals, but that the Republican Party has moved more to the right. It's the media that is perpetrating this notion that the "Left" is so "extreme" and "socialist", etc. We've (yes I am a Democrat) always fought for the same values - at least I have!
