Venture Capitalists Back Away from Clean Energy

As governments around the world are scaling back support for renewable energy, venture capitalists are shifting their clean technology investment strategy. They're focusing less on high-risk technologies and more on ideas that could have a faster payoff but a smaller impact, such as technologies for improving energy efficiency. The shift is raising concerns about how innovative energy technologies will be commercialized.

...
And now government support is being cut, and some analysts doubt that the fast growth of the clean energy markets can be sustained. Germany, Italy, and Spain are cutting back subsidies for renewable energy. In the United States, funding for clean energy from the 2009 stimulus legislation is running out.

This is not surprising. Many clean energy ideas don't work - and the fact that so much money has been invested and they still could not put together something that worked on a mass scale is an endictment on clean energy as a substitute for coal and oil for large scale population.

Maybe you should call Germany and let them know.

Similarly, the German government’s clear support for renewable energy has made it a safe bet for investors, said Claudia Kemfert, an energy expert from
the German Institute for Economic Research in Berlin.

Instrumental to the success has been its “feed-in tariffs,” backed by political consensus, whereby utility companies are compelled to buy clean energy at an inflated price. A family with solar panels on their roof can sell any spare electricity to the grid, while another family down the road pays a slightly higher price for grid electricity to subsidize the clean energy producers.

In about two weeks, Germany will unveil its third offshore wind farm, this one in the Baltic Sea. “Baltic 1,” as it is named, is part of a 3 billion euro ($4.3 billion) investment by utility company EnBW Energie Baden-Wuerttemberg, which aims to generate 20 percent of its energy from renewable sources by 2020.United States falls behind Germany in renewable energy investment | iPolitics

I just checked and it seems that since the nuclear accidnt in Japan, Germany is rethinking its objectives. Shame, but at least the German people are not up in arms when the choice to enforce green energy policies are put in place.

However, Europe's largest economy is shying away from pushing for renewable energy to replace those plants, even though opinion polls show people are willing to accept higher bills to support green power.

Well the trick is to make alternatives cheaper than the mainstream stuff. P/V for the grid is way to expensive. But P/V as a substitute for gasoline is really really cheap.

The investors are moving away from renewable energy - as it says in your article (in blue).

Opinion polls for your support? Not your experts there and they don't have skin in the game...

We all saw what happened to Spain's economy when they tried to spend themselves into a green economy. One green job cost 2 conventional jobs in Spain and it was an utter failure. Wind farms suck, and they are a blight on the landscape. Energy efficiency is a better payoff until we can get nuclear fusion to work.

see we already built this technology in the 60's and 70's ran it with no problem for 30 years..

INDIA is already built a working one

LOL. Thorium and the EPA would have biiiiiiig trouble. Hell they shut down the only mine that pulled thorium out of it like eight years ago and are trying to open it back up. China is now hoarding their rare earth stuff. Thorium is about the same as nuclear but the stuff from the uranium can be weaponized. Thorium can be turned into the dirty stuff I believe but it's not easy.

I started a thread about this guy who's trying to come up with a thorium powered car. I think it's a great idea but when you cut your way through all the red tape if it's even possible to get this stuff nationwide your hundreds of billions in the hole. Thank our government. Hell we havn't even built a refinery for 30 years or a nuclear power plant.

If you want to use Thorium in a bomb you need to purify it just like U 235 if you mix the thorium with the U 238 in the fuel rods. If you don't mix it you can separate fissionable U out of the Thorium be chemical means just like with U and plutonium.
