I went to dinner last night with friends who had guests visiting from Philadelphia. During dinner, the woman from Pakistan related how her child came home crying from her first day of school in a southern city saying tht she wanted to put chalk on her face. This was 30 some years ago. Why did the child feel this way? The teacher told the child that she looked like a N word. How pathetic is that? The child was transferred to a different classroom with a non racist teacher. The child's new teacher asked the mother to come in to speak to the class about Pakistan. Too bad we can't be so enlightened or tolerant in this day and age. Let us substitute political bias for racism and learn to be tolerant.

Oh please. I went through my entire K-12 education in the South (Virginia) and I never ran across any racist teachers.

My issue with this story is not only was the child demeaned and disrespected, but she was transferred to another class as if it was alright for this child to be treated in that manner. What happened to the teacher? I certainly hope she was fired.
Edit....Oh I went on a rant without realizing this occured 30 years ago. I would hope that teachers can put their bias on the side while teaching our young.

No, we all asked the mother if the teacher was fired. She was not.
