It is interesting. Biological systems, which typical have certain optima of temperature, etc. have mechanisms to maintain the system in a functional zone. If it gets cold, we shiver. Too hot, we sweat.

Likewise socioeconomic systems seem to be wealthiest with a strong middle class. Extremely inequal system degrade into tyranny. Yet, our current GOP model is designed to give every possible advantage to those who are already fortunate, and to weaken those in the bottom tiers. It is a positive feedback system, where imbalances are amplified over time, as the wealthy use their power to bend the system to their advantage.

GOP politicians are like white blood cells in a body with leukemia. They used to have many fiscal conservatives who kept the system in line. Now they have become cancerous and use their power to attack the very system they were elected to maintain. The GOP system of robbing from the poor to feed the rich is inherently unsustainable.

Accepted by whom? Remove the cap from the wage tax would make Social Security solvent forever. Trying to pay the deficit without raising taxes is like trying to pay off your credit card by making minimum payments.

The NY Times for one.

Recession Drains Social Security and Medicare - NYTimes.com

You could confiscate the wealth of the top 10% and still not fix the problem. It is a simple numbers problem the left refuses to recognize. I have no idea why they want these programs to disappear.

Why Social Security is a Ponzi Scheme - Forbes

"In 1950, there were 16 workers paying taxes into the system for every retiree who was taking benefits out of it. Today, there are a little more than three. By the time the baby boomers retire, there will be just two workers who will have to pay all the taxes to support every one retiree."

As if the taxes now aren't enough.

"Some people say, “There’s no problem here – just raise taxes further until we get the money that we need.”* But what started at 2% has now become 12.4% when both the employee’s and the employer’s portions are considered.*** And keep in mind that the half paid by the employer represents monies that by definition can’t be paid to the employees or investors in the form of additional wages and/or returns.*** As the saying goes, corporations don’t pay taxes.* People pay taxes."

Actually, it's...

Republicans believe in trickle-down economics, while Democrats believe in trickle-up poverty.

Democrats use higher taxes on the wealthy to create programs to empower the middle and lower class.
All Democrats do with those programs is create more dependency on government handouts. That needs to stop. The birth rate of those receiving public assistance is 3 times that of everyone else. Why? Because the government PAYS the lower class to breed.

obama once admitted that more taxation on the rich wont bring in any more revenue, and will cost jobs, and he said he didnt care because he wanted to punish the rich.

and how many times have the unions decided to go on strike because they were not getting exactly what they wanted, which put the worker out of work for a while, and when they finally got the contract they wanted, the company would turn around and lay people off because of the cost of the contract? it happens far more often than you think.

taxing the rich more doesnt help the middle class, it hurts them because in the end THE RICH DONT PAY TAXES if they can pass the cost on to others. lets say you raise taxes on a small business owner, lets say by 10%. what happens? the business owner has a few choices;

1: they can raise prices

2: they can lay people off

3: they can cut portions

4: they can speed up the assembly lines

5: they can doa combination of all of the above

so lets look at these shall we? if the business owner raises prices, who pays? thats right the customer pays. and that doesnt help anyone now does it?

if the business owner lays people off, what happens? more unemployment, and who is that good for? thats right no one.
if the business cuts portion size, what happens? yes thats right, the people get LESS for their money. who does that help? again thats right no one.

if the business owner speeds up the assembly lines, what happens? thats right the employees have to work harder to keep up. who does that help? again NO ONE.

if we keep tax rates low on everyone, and reduce the amount of excessive regulations on business, what happens? prices tend to stay lower, and we get more for our money.

so tell me, why are you still in the "lets raise taxes on the rich" camp?
In other words because the rich have so much power we should just roll over and submit?

Pleaes make up your mind. You headline focuses on the middle class, then you throw in the poor. They are different.

The unions while helping its members hurts the rest of the middle claass taxpayers who have to pay more taxes if it is a public employees union or in higher prices if it is a private sector union.

There are more middle class people NOT in unions there are in unions.

The unions hurt more middle class then they help.

Your premise is wrong.

The unions don't help the middle class.

The middle class are the ones getting shafted by the unions with their lavish salary, benefits, pensions, vacation days and standing around getting paid to do nothing.

The unions are leeches, sucking the middle class dry.

They see themselves as a protected class.
