As we all know, the president's approval rating has been steadily dropping across the country. I was wondering, in which places (be it state, city, or region) does the president still have a higher approval than the national average. And why?

Perhaps he would be more popular in Iraq? He seems to be bankrupting our country to rebuild another... and one that didn't have to be destroyed in the first place.

That would explain this...

A new NBC News poll shows an uptick in support for the president's handling of the war. As Mr. Bush prepares to follow Congressional testimony by top Iraq Gen. David Petraeus with a speech to the nation tonight, the proportion of Americans who believe the troop surge is helping and that victory remains possible has edged up.

Bush has a higher than average approval rating in many of the red states, such as Utah, Wyoming, Idaho and Oklahoma.

I think he still has a higher approval rating over a negative one in Wyoming and Utah-but not by much-something like a 55% approval.

Here in Connecticut his approval rating is about 22%. In Vermont, Rhode Island and Massachusetts something like 18%, Maine about 25%-and even in New Hampshire only about 30%

He's popular with the terrorists.

He's bankrupting our country so they won't have to.

That uptick is a few Republican defectors crawling back to the fold. Independents and Democrats have not changed their opinion. And why should a military tactic begun 4 years too late help to approve of Bush's performance anyway.

Today it was announced the tentative oil agreement the "Iraqi government" had been putting in place fell apart. So the surge has accomplished zip in terms of getting the political process set up - you know, the original objective of the surge.

And a car bomb just killed the Sunni Muslim leader instrumental in holding the alliance together working with our troops to fight al-Qaeda in Anbar. A state of emergency has been declared in Anbar. Is this what bush calls a success story?
