The tea party is a radical fringe group created by the Koch's, Beck and Palin. They've had their chance and have done absolutely nothing to create jobs like they promised. All they have proposed is destroying medicare, social security, attacks on the middle class and refused to cut a penny of their own outrageous spending to the rich which lead to the credit downgrade.
The tea party approval is abysmal and the GOP since taking over the house has gained congress their lowest approval in US history.
Even somewhat sane GOP candidates like Romney got protested against by Dick Armey's radical right wing tea party extremist group.
The tea party and GOP are toast.

If Perry wins the nomination, Obama will win the general election. If Romney wins the nomination, it's a toss up.

If Romney wins the GOP nomination, it's a landslide for Obama. The GOP field is absolutely atrocious. Anyway you take it, Obama comes out on top at the end of the day.

Maybe so. Romney being Mormon will hurt him with the GOP base and his past liberalism will also hurt as well. Either way, Obama has to like the GOP field. Rick Perry shouldn't even waste campaign cash in Florida if he's the nominee.

So, shouldn't the GOP be fielding a really strong candidate? I think they are in clear disarray at the moment

Are you kidding? A sock puppet will beat Obama when the election comes about. NO INDEPENDENT will support four more years of incompetence. EVERY LIBERAL will support four more years of incompetence. It is a mathematical impossibility. Obama loses big, as no one with a brain in their head will support him. Liberals, of course, will support him regardless of performance, but they do not have the numbers to carry the election.

If one can bet on the elections in Las Vegas, I will put at a minimum, $100K against Obama. If I lose, I will lose a hell of alot more than $100K by having him president, so it doesn't matter. I really cannot imagine a sane and rational universe in which such an ineffective and incompetent president is given the nod of approval for his first four years. This, to me, would indicate the death knell of the nation and losing $100K would be minor. At that point, I would be happy that I have land, gold, and plenty of weapons, as that would be "rich" in the post Obama era. How are you in urban areas going to grow vegetables and get water from concrete?

Oh, I wish I could bet you in a situation in which you would actually have to pay off the debt.

There is no way in hell that Obama wins the next election. Who the hell is going to vote for him, besides liberals? There are not enough liberals to win the election and the independents will carry the day. They appear to have no palate for four more years of Obama. People are in their knees and do not care about gay marriage or global warming. Obama is an impediment to jobs and a resurgence in the economy. Talk to the average guy on the street and you will find out how the election will play out. "Hope and Change" rings hollow with terrible economic numbers and a president who will not change his course of action. To vote for Obama is to insure four more years of misery.

The reality is TP is GIVING Obama a 2nd term. ANY Establishment Repub w/o a TP VP is a sure bet, but just as JM pandered right in '08, MR will be dumb enough to follow suit, leaving the swing states to BO, and with it, term #2.
