Is Colorado becoming immune to the modern day conservative movement.

Despite the national problems including the economy, despite the tea bag party fiasco, despite the "Obama is a secret Kenyan/fake American/secret something else" humiliation, there are now more registered Democrats in Colorado than Republicans.
Brown: Candidates wise to stay in the middle - The Denver Post
When have registered Democrats outnumbered Republicans in Colorado before? I can't find any time prior when this has happened.

Granted its an incredibly slim number the Dems lead by in Colorado, but listening to Fox and Friends, Lou Dobbs, Laura Ingraham, Michael Medved, Rush Limaugh, Neil Boortz, Neil Cavuto, etc you'd figure there would be no Democrats left anywhere! Except enough super secret Democrats to elect someone they disagree to be President.

Maybe it's from all the people who've recently moved here from California? That's the case with our household, and many in our neighborhood. If Focus on (everyone else's) Family would leave the state, that would help! That said, it's still a very independent minded state, but has some very liberal enclaves.

I don't think the party affiliation is as important as the mind set. Many Democrats and many more indepentants vote conservatively; just look at Arkansas...

West Virginia to as another majority Democrat/GOP Presidential state
But given the vociferous demeaning of Democrats by the conservatives you'd figure no one would want to register as a Democrat anymore.

Colorado is suffering from a Bush backlash.

That is true, though in Colorado's case its a bit different. You have some areas that are liberal to very liberal, Denver, Boulder, the Ski resort areas. You also have some areas that are very conservative such as Colorado Springs, much of the eastern portion of the state. As a whole I would say the changes in Colorado revolve around suburban Denver, specifically Arapahoe and Jefferson Counties. The southern Evangelical take over of the GOP, which has hurt them in other suburban areas that were once solidly Republican, such as here on Long Island, suburban Philly, Northern Virginia, etc have also hurt the GOP in suburban Denver.

My experience here in CO is that voters tend to be fairly well-informed. Certain areas are more conservative than others (e.g. Douglas County), but the people here have a fairly progressive world-view and they believe in investing in their communities and infrastructure. Here in Denver, people support light rail expansion, urban renewal, a robust library system, parks and rec, etc...

But we also have fairly good government here, which probably accounts for a lot of the voter sentiment.

Unaffililitated voters (call Independent in some states) outnumber Repubs or Dems in CO. We are very independent.

My husband and I are looking to retire in Colorado. We don't know where yet but we are not in the "liberal group", just want to live where people think logically. Any suggestions?
