I realize that both the government and private sector (advertizers etc) can look and listen to what I do. So what? I know I live in a goldfish bowl but I do what I want, within financial limits, anyway. I say to my watchers, "Go ahead and look. Then you will be as bored as I."

Makes one wonder if the people that say that sort of tripe think the same thing about all the persons of German descent in the US.
I certainly hope not. Persons of German descent make up a large portion of the population in the US and they've contributed much to this nation!

I don't think it has much to do with immigrants.
Actually a bad reputation does not help Germany with attracting new immigrants, of whom Germany will need millions in the future according to researchers.

Yes, there's no need for us to be concerned with Germany when far worse is going on here with our out-of-control government.

This thread is about online observation only. If that is done in the US, are the providers of security software such as anti-malware suites forced to cooperate with the government? I mean, everyone has such software these days and, government or not, it's just a piece of software that should not be on the computer regardless where it originated.

Look at all the ignorant bigoted threads we get around here concerning just our own country and states.

I'm thinking of the moronic thread about the Westboro Baptist Church a week or so ago where protesters were claiming Phelps & family were KS natives, republican and so forth. When corrected with facts, they slid back under their rocks admitting nothing.

Still, it's Germans distrusting Germans, just like it is Americans distrusting Americans in the US. This has little to do with anything international.

When there is such technology, sooner or later there will always be abuse because those in power just can't help but use it.
And spying on all kinds of people creates new problems, like what to do with all the information. Oftentimes governments they are just overwhelmed by all the information they collect.
