what about new money that comes off the printing press? where should it go?
The new money is being printed because the people who bought homes did not pay for them. The banks have homes they foreclosed on . The banks assets are homes and no money...that is where the printing of money comes in...with no money to lend to the people to run a business or buy a house the banks are selling some toxic assets to the government.
The housing crisis has eaten the money . The homes that were built and bought hold the dollars for the labor and material. The banks didn't get paid for the loans they put out to the people who are either sitting in their homes for years without paying their mortgage or the homes sitting on the balance sheets of banks who are selling them for 30 -50 percent below the mortgage price.
It's not that having such a disparity is good, it's how you go about closing the gap. Under Reagan the gap actually narrowed, the middle class grew.
The problem is with the liberals who brought us NAFTA and so-called free trade, who very much supported the export of American jobs and the import of cheap labor don't have the answers.
Obama is all for NAFTA, never once has he questioned the export of our jobs, Obama is all for open borders and unlimited illegal immigration which everyone should realize is all about cheap labor and the displacement of American workers. Obama, Pelosi, Frank were the masterminds of the bailouts of the bankers and CEO's, handing them over billions of tax payers' money.
The problem with this way of thinking is that the hierarchy that emerged from slavery placed people at the top who didn't earn that position. You don't earn respect by subjugating and decimating an entire race of people for economic gain, then proceed forward with a false sense of superiority while being indifferent to the devastation that such evil has wrought on successive generations of descendants of slaves. Hence the reality of "unearned privilege", where those who benefited from the inequities are in the best position to preserve the inequities.
Republicans are desperate to preserve the inequities, making it harder for those minorities who are far more talented, have greater resolve, have overcome far more adversity, have a great deal more depth, knowledge, skill, dignity, education, and intelligence to "earn it." The pathetic economic theory of the typical hapless Republican is "trickle down" economics. This is where you give the rich, people who largely didn't "earn" their place, more money, so they can use that money to help those less fortunate flourish and join their ranks. Never happens. Instead, they use it to preserve the inequities.
Bigoted ideologies will never acknowledge this. Al Sharpton is absolutely right as usual. Sharpton, by the way, is fighting a battle that is morally superior to any feeble Republican concern: He fights for EQUALITY.

Equality?
I'm pretty sure Al Sharpton has more money than most of us, when did he empty his bank accounts and give his money away to anyone?
